Khellandros,

These new amps use a digital (class d) output section. Many new implementations of digital amplifiers have higher distotion figures due to the distortion created by the output L/C filter.

Newer digital amplifiers have a control/feedback loop which takes into consideration the distortion created by the L/C filter and corrects for it. These amps will rival linear amps for distortion levels.

Grumble, grumble....

Well, I guess I need to find me that STR-DA4ES before they totally dissappear as I'm not at all interested in putting a silver component in my otherwise black stack. Black is good - its subdued, and it doesn't draw attention.

Has anyone done a comparision between this line and the last; say the DA4ES and the DA3000ES?

(Friggen silver.... argh!)

I got picture of new 9000ES today and have picture of back of unit along with all specs. Here is the new stuff about it:
2 DVI inputs
1 DVI output
Upconvert to component video
200 x 7 channel watts
9.1 chcannel capability
Ummmmmmm.....has i.Link for SACD with SCD-XA 9000ES
3 component video inputs: HD Pass (80MHZ)
3 zone
2nd remote included for other room
Detachable AC (whatever that means)
Looking at it makes me wet!!!!!! I was buying the Denon AVR 5803 until I saw this. Where are Sony's sold at discount? I figure this answer is a fair trade for the info? Thanks.

I really commend Sony for the advances they have brought about in their new line. As some of you will know this was the topic of my first post on this forum. Clearly both switching power supplies and digital amps are the way of the future.

While I don't think Sony quite nailed it yet, they have done an outstanding job. For the STR-DA 2000 through 5000 0.8% distortion is just a little too high for me. However they should make their distortion graphs available as distortion does tend to kick up rather quickly when the power supply runs out of juice. Perhaps they are too eagerly going after the high output power numbers.

I personally will always take fidelity over power, especially when we are in the 120W+ range. From what I have read however, it does seem that obtaining a clean output from a digital amp is easier with an analog input, rather than a digtal input. Kind of ironic but it seems that analog inputs allow better feedback mechanism to be employed.

I have a full 8x10 page of it, but it's hard copy. Not yet scanned it. I will try, but my attempts to scan and send mail rarely work. I never did get an answer where to buy the 9000ES at discount prices? Trying to send it to you soon. Andy.

I'm waiting now to hear all the complaining about how it only has a single firewire port. Seems like every new flagship has at least one missing feature.

I'm sure you are right, like the people complaining have soooo much gear that requiers a lot of firewire ports.

Folks,

Wondering about the DA5000ES and its THD. I have seen the specs that show 0.8% (the Sony technical paper); 0.6% (Crutchfield, etc.); and when I called Sony they said that the owner's manual reads 0.09%. What's going on here? Do you think these are measured at different output levels? Do you think these levels are acceptable? Would I be better off buying a DA7ES that is still available to me? And do you think they will release the 5000 in black in the US?

Thanks!
