OK, they actually look pretty good in that room shot with people in it. I was expecting something 6' tall towering over some cowering earthlings. Watched too much Lost in Space as a kid I guess.

Is this show a yearly event? I'm within driving range. It would be worth the drive to listen to some of these speakers.
In person, they are actually beautiful looking speakers. Do a search like "Salk veneer" and you'll see some of the magic he does with wood, simply stunning. My favorite at this show was the upgraded Songtower veneer. It's the middle set of the group of three. The effect is almost like highly polished marble but with wood grain instead of marbling, like it's carved from a solid block and polished to a mirror finish.

AFAIK, it is an annual show and it's held at the same hotel every year. It covers the whole range of the industry from vintage and DIY'ers showing off their latest gear to small ID startups to the $20K Snells running with another $14K worth of Mac gear. Funny thing, in the dozens of rooms I visited, there was barely a subwoofer in sight. A couple of vintage/DIY guys had subs but not one in a manufacturer display.

I've seen other pictures of his veneers. He gets really nice gain patterns.

I'll have to mark this show on my calender for next year.

That finish you liked so much is a hand-rubbed high-gloss lacquer finish, available for $1200 extra. Probably not for everyone, but you're right about how good it looks.

I showed my wife the pics of those speakers. She didn't like it. In fact, she doesn't like any of the wood finishes I like. What are ya gonna do???

Could always have Jim paint a pair for you... any color, or dye a grain you like to whatever color your wife likes.

I just realized I included the wrong link to the Snell Phantoms in my previous post. Here is the real pic.

They are a seriously awesome speaker with a seriously awesome pricetag to boot.

Oops, wrong thread. The bad link was in the AK Fest thread. I'll include this over there now but I'll leave the pic here for fun.

Those Salks are weird looking to say the least, BUT I'm sure they sound most exquisite. Let me guess they are rather pricey huh!?

Expect the final price to be around $15K. But then again, they sound every bit like a $15K speaker should sound.
