I just moved into a new house this past weekend, and am now getting settled and ready to set up my system. The new room has all wood floors, and is almost square, 13 x 15 x 10.
The biggest issues I'm facing now are the four large windows, each of which measure 3 x 6. The windows are the type that are made up of several small, overlapping panes that can be opened and closed via a crank. Two of these open up onto a fairly busy street and offer no insulation, so the noise can be distracting from listening.
I'm wondering if I should buy large acoustic panels and hang them with curtains over the two windows that open to the street, and then hang thick curtains over the remaining windows. Would this noticeably reduce the sound from the outside? Anyone with experience dealing with a less than ideal room have advice? Thanks
