Hi,

I don't know much about Receivers but I want to purchase a new AV for my husband for Christmas. We currently have a Yamaha RX-V630.
We have an entertainment cabinet with a lift for our Sony LCD. We wanted to use HDMI cable to connect TV, however the cable stuck out too
far to enable the lift to work. I can't find a HDMI that would be more flexible or have a right angle? We are using those red, green and yellow cables and need more inputs and outputs for the DVD player, etc. than we currently have on our RX-V630. I also want an AV that will allow us to play our outdoor speakers without having the inside speakers up real loud. I am leaning towards Yamaha because that is what he has, but I'm open to
suggestions. Price is not a big factor in this purchase. Thanks for your help.

I read your other thread. What is your budget? What devices aside from a DVD player and cable will be connected to the AVR?

Seth, I'm not sure, maybe a computer. We currently have direct tv, dvd, sub, 5 speackers. I have been looking online at Yamaha RX-V1600,
RX-V2600, RX-V4600. One with enough inputs and outputs since I can't have a HDMI connected to my TV and use the lift. Poor design on this beautiful entertainment cabinet. Don't want to spend more than $2,000.00.
Hope I'm doing this forum right never done this before. Thanks for your help, Tonya

No receiver today works with cable or satellite set top boxes (STB) over the HDMI input/ output due to the nature of HDMI implementation in receivers. So even if you got a HDMI capable receiver, you will still have to use the component out (the yellow, blue, green cable) on the STB to the receiver and then have the receiver upconvert the signal to HDMI. Alternately, you will have to run the HDMI cable from the STB directly to the TV.

Google "hdmi angle adapter" and you will find a host of solutions. Here is one for example,

Regarding the ability to play the outdoor speakers, almost all receivers mid range and above have the "Zone 2" capability. That means you can have one audio source being played in the main area and a different audio source in "Zone 2". Eg. Watching a DVD in the main room and playing radio on the outdoor speakers. Some receivers only control the signal meaning you will need an additional amplifier for the outdoor speakers, while others have built Zone 2 amplifiers so all you need to do is run the speaker wire.

Also see my reply in your other post. Sooner or later someone will say this, so it might as well be me, double posting for essentially the same question is not good forum etiquette.

I've been using a Dish HD satellite receiver via HDMI to my Denon AVR for quite some time now with no problems whatsoever. True, many cable boxes of certain manufacturers have been pretty glitchy, but not all.

You dont need to spend 2000 to get a decent receiver..

The Yamaha RX-V659 is more than sufficient for anything other than very high end systems - and it is a 7.1 in case you expand the speaker system...

Just my two cents......

And HT is becoming so much more affordable..... specially if in the States....online companies...WOW!!!

Tanya, you could also go with the Yamaha RX-V2700 if you want a bit more power for your speakers. I just got mine a few days ago and it is one fabulous piece of work. I'm a n00b so the setup seems quite complicated, but it does video signal upconversion (component to HDMI) and has zone 2 as well, which seems to be exactly what you wanted.

You are one of the lucky few. There is a thread dedicated to this issue Cable box HDMI issues
