New receiver???

I currently have a Denon AVR-6400H.....I have 2 Klipsch RF 82 speakers for L/R and a RC-64 Center along with 2 HSU VTF-3 MK5 subs....mostly sports, blue rays and music. The Denon has in the last year had 2 HDMI ports fail. Now I'm looking to replace it with another AVR. The Denon was overkill obviously since there are not many speakers to power. I'll add speakers in the future but probably not more than 4 more. I realize the Klipsch are easy to push but I still want something with power. Any suggestions....roughly $2k or under

If the X3800H has the functionality you need, then it is the better value because it has the latest features, 4 independent subouts, upgradable to DLBC, potentially even ART. That means, it can stay up-to-date for a few years, than the SR7015 that is almost outdated by now.

The SR7015 measured poorly compared to its Denon cousins, though the differences may not be audible to most people.

For Marantz, I would recommend the Cinema 40, or the 50 on a lower budget, but that's if you are in Europe or Asia (such as Singapore), where the price between M and D equivalents are not significant, in some cases, negligible (such as 0).

I use Monoprice 8K certified HDMI braided cables from Directv receiver to Denon 4/8K AVR and Denon AVR ARC out to TV ARC. I use 8K cables......just b/c. They are not costly.

Yes, and get a good one. I don't you can see a difference vs a good 4K one but for a few dollars more you can eliminate one thing to wonder about so why not..

Measurements are one thing, it's about what it sounds like with your speakers. I replaced my SR6007 with a SR7015 I had a Pioneer SC-LX57 on hand and it was IMHO crap, then tried a Denon and a Yamaha from my local HIFI dealer and decided on sticking with Marantz, I could have gone for the Cinema 40 but the price was nearly $2k higher than the SR7015, besides it still has the Analog input do I could still use that to connect my OPPO Udp205 without and digital processing and listen to SACD disks in true pure mode.

Why would you want 8K HDMI cables, there is no media in 8K just some on Youtube, seems a waste of money to me.

“8K” cables aren’t about 8K content, but bandwidth. Ultra Certified(4K @120Hz/8K @60Hz) cables support 48gbps while Premium Certified(4K @60Hz) cables just 18gbps. Ultra Certified cables are necessary for anybody connecting a new game console, Mac or PC that can output 4K @120Hz to a new receiver and TV combo that support 4K @120Hz/8K @60Hz.

Really don’t think any player’s DAC will do a significantly better job than a good AVR. The continued inclusion of 7.1 analog ports on some players and receivers is more for those connecting older models of one or the other to newer components. One could simply connect over HDMI and put the receiver in Pure Direct mode or use processing to activate bass management, REQ and up mixing. Results will vary of course.

I have an Oppo UDP205 it has reference ESS Saber Refrence DAC's, now when I first used it I was slightly disappointed with the sound (connected via HDMI) picture was and still is stunning, it was only when I discovered that using HDMI as the connection any signal from the Oppo was converted back and re decoded by my receiver's DAC's, so in order to hear the benefit of the DAC's in the Oppo i had to use the 7.1 analog channels and set the output from DSD to PCM, once I did this the sound became more open spacious and revealing it is frankly a huge difference, you may ask what Receiver I am using well it was a Marantz SR6007 but I have now upgraded to a Marantz SR7015 and I am glad I did not get a Cinema series Marantz as they don't have the 7.1 Analog in, one thing of note is that using the 7.1 in on the Marantz it bypasses all the room correction and sound levels for each channel and I had to use the features to set the levels and crossover in the Oppo

I did mourn the lack of 7.1 analog inputs on some receivers I purchased after having them on a few Denons. I thought about going back to them but purchased a Sony player that had only HDMI output for DSD multichannel signals. It was a cheap experiment that worked out and I'm over the analog ports. I just didn't want to spend that kind of money for a replacement of my old Oppo. I'm sure the 205 sounds wonderful in some nice systems but I'm done chasing that particular dragon.

Hi, no not really as I have found that listening to these over the NET is not representative of what you can either purchase on SACD or download from somewhere like HD Tracks, even then you can get some bad recordings or copy's of. I have somehow purchased 2 copies of a live Elton John concert on DVD one is really good the other is totally crap in the sound, I have a feeling one is a non genuine copy and yet both were purchased from reputable shops here in NZ.

The point was more that even after repeated adc/dac cycles audibility of such isn't generally an issue. Avoiding processing in an avr because it does a conversion is likely more in your assumptions than any real issue.

It is possible you got a bootleg on one of those discs....or there were production/manufacturing issues with one....

How long of a run for 8k Cables are you doing, and for what purpose? Do you game and need VRR and 120hz 4k? If not, I really don't see a need unless you have an 8K TV and actually can find content for it as Peng stated.

With 4K if you are going to do long runs, greater than 15m I would look at Ruipro. If not, Monoprice does a good job with their 4k cables, I use them for shorter runs.
