Thanks for all the info....I didn’t know you could get the 720 for $1000 on clearance. Have any ideas where? I know a dealer with a good price on the Marantz but not for the Anthem.
Really really good info again
No I doubt you can find one at that price, unless used. It was hypothetical.. Anthem, NAD, Arcam, Rotel's etc., tend to be much more expensive as they don't have the volume to support the more aggressive pricing schemes of the likes of sony, D&M, Yamaha's. As to sound quality, it is highly subjective and you either believe what their users claimed, or you don't. I am trained to rely much more on data than feeling, and definitely not hearsay at all. I have done my fair share of comparison listening too, and found relying on data is actually the better/much more reliable way because it is scientific, facts based and not affected by expectation bias.
The Marantz sounds better than Denon kind of blanket statements (mostly in the US and UK (to less extent) are also baseless, originated from long time ago when Marantz, along with others, including Denon actually(at least in the far east that I knew of),might have purposely tuned their products to people who preferred the so called "warm" sound.
If you can get really good prices for the Marantz models from SR6012 and up, go for it. Between the two brands, I would rank in the order X8500H, SR8012, X6400H, SR7012, X4400H, SR6012, X3400H, SR5012. For 2018 models, same order, just substitute the 2 and 4 with 3 and 5.
