Is there a website/link that one can use to input a receiver make/model and have it spit out reviews and any other useful information? On that same note I am looking at upgrading my receiver (with a budget of $500-600) and have set my sights on the following:

Yamaha 5.1 Channel HDMI HTR6050
Harmon Kardon 5.1 HDMI AVR147
Denon AVR-588

Any thoughts or recommendations (perhaps even for a receiver not mentioned)

** and how important is 4 ohm capability when searching for receivers?

Thanks for the help.

Not sure where you came up with that list, particularly w/ the price range you gave b/c I believe that all of those receivers are in the 300-400 range. I've never heard of that Denon model before, but I did a quick check on Amazon and found that while it has HDMI inputs/outputs, it will not process audio via HDMI. It makes very little sense to me even why they would build a receiver like that, since the whole purpose of HDMI is to be able to pass audio and video through one cable!

As for the Yamaha, I couldn't even find that on a search except for other forum discussions where people said it was very new, but it's not on the Yamaha website either. Where did you even hear about this receiver?

As for receivers you should look at for the price range of around $500:

Onkyo 605, Denon 1708, Yamaha 661, and the HK 247. There's a variety of pros and cons to each, but generally they all have very similar specs and all of them are great receivers for the price. If I were you I'd search the Receivers thread on Audioholics for opinions on all of these, as well as checking out places like cnet for more user opinions.

Thanks for the info. As for the list of receivers I provided they came from on-line searches from local stores in my area (mainly Future Shop and some others). The prices all fell between $479-$579. I am in the Toronto area and am aware that prices for such components may be more expensive than in the US. I'll look into those receiver suggestions.
