These kind of snuck up on me. 37lbs 8 oz for the 9140 and 36lbs 8 oz for the 9040. 4 HDMI inputs on one and 5 on the other with 2 outputs. Both models have full the full 8 multichannel analog inputs, redesigned GUI and iPod/iPhone functionality. Detachable power cords, full connectivity, increased weight and all the hi-def codecs. Looks like they are trying to get people to forget about the dropped weight of models past.

After a bit more investigation, it appears these 2 models may be nearly identical to the VSX-23 and 21TXH models for a decent decrease in price. Same weight, same back panel layout, possibly only missing the THX sound modes.

I stand corrected, only 5.1 multi-channel inputs, but 7.1 outputs...Weird thing to do, but I guess they figured the necessity for the full 7.1 analog inputs is lessened by the abundance of HDMI inputs.

Those must be pretty new models. They don't have all the links in on the website for them, yet.

I bought the VSX-23, and while I haven't really gone through the details, the 9140 seems like the same thing with a different finish on the front panel and different colored LEDs. So, like you said, very similar. The MSRP is the same on both, but dealers will be able to sell the 9140 online - which should drop the street price quite a bit.

Dealers are not allowed to sell the VSX-23 online?

Unless Pioneer changed their policy, authorized Elites are sold in store only. Sure, you'll see them online, but I don't think that the warranty applies to those. I am not the authority on this, though. That's just the way it was when I've looked the past couple of years.
