I just bought a new Onkyo TX-SR608. I love it but have one problem: I cannot get the disply to announce that I am playing DTS-HD or Dolby TrueHD. It always still says PCM. I followed the OnkyoUSA website instructions and it still does not show it on the display. I have updated the firmware for the BD player. I have everything hooked up via HDMI. I have went into the BD disc menu and set it to Master Audio or HD format. Still nothing. Any help would be appreciated. THANKS...!

You said you went into the disc menu but did you go into the player menu and set the output to bitstream? I think that is what you need to have it set on but if I am wrong someone please correct me. I don't have a reciever that doe true hd so I have my BD player set to output PCM but like I said I believe you should have it set to bitstream.

Funny you mentioned that. I just thought of doing that right before I checked back here. Great minds, I guess... I will surely try that when I get back to the house.
Much Obliged, sir...
...and if anyone else has any info for me, it would be appreciated.

Good advice. My family room BD player is an old "fat" PS/3 so I have it doing the decoding. All my Onkyo TX-NR906 sees and reports is that it's being fed a "multichannel PCM" signal. You can go into the Onkyo's "listening mode presets" menu to set how it handles each type of input for each source.

I just checked the manual for my BD player online and it mentions to change the digital audio output to bitstream when the "connected equipment can decode the respective audio format".looks like that will do the trick, but I will post back to tell of the change and its affect. Thanks for the replys, my friends!
