Hey all,

I have recently gotten a Kenwood KR-V9020 Receiver and have a couple questions. To start out does anyone know if it is possible to hook up a sub woofer to it? I know next to nothing about home audio/video equipment, so I will probably be asking many questions from time to time.

Thanks in advance,
Matt Manter

Hey, Matt...

I can't find too much information on that unit, but to answer your question, you need to see if it has a sub pre-out on the back. It may or may not...

If not, just look for a sub that takes speaker level inputs. You hook up the Left and Right channels into the sub and then from the sub to the left and right speakers.

Do you have a sub or are you shopping for one?

Thanks, I'll take a look at the back of the unit. Will it specifically say "sub pre out"? There is a port labeled "pre out" but I'm not sure if it is the one I need in this case.

I don't currently have a sub, and am trying to figure out my options before I purchase one.

The sub pre out will specifically be labled "sub preout". That said, you could possibly use the connection for a sub, just depends on what it is. If you get really ambitious, post up a picture of the back of the unit.

Any idea on budget for a new sub?

I'll see if I can get a pcture of the back of the unit to see. At the moment I'm not sure how much of a budget for a sub.

Decided to just replace the unit. The remote was very, very confusing and it appears there was not a sub output. Found me a Sony with 5.1 surround sound hookup so I went ahead and got that unit.
