basically im looking at building myself a nice little system. im only a limited budget (still in highschool)

so far i have
32inch sharp aquos lcd
sony DVP-NS90V dvd/cd player
PS2

im looking for a reciever and speakers/sub that will sound good, and fit by budget. im kinda clueless at this point in home audio, but have pretty good knowledge of car audio instalation.

ive talked to a few people and have had these products recomennded

denon AVR-486S for a reciever
infinity primus 250 tower speakers
infinity primus 150 book shelf speakers
infinity primus c25 center speaker
infinity ps-8 or ps-10 sub

would all of this work together, and is there a better system i can put together for the same price? i want something that sounds good for dvds, but also for regular music, as i always have some music playing in my room. i also need to know what cables/wiring i am going to need, and other accessories

a few future plans include hooking my computer up (i have around 20 gigs of music right now, all from ripped cds) an xbox 360

right now its gonna be in my bedroom, and will be in a dorm room after the summer.

thanx,
ryan

I too am building a new small HT system

I have a small room 10' x 12' that opens into another 15' x 10' room.

Currently I have a Panasonic 34" TAU, a Panasonic XR55, just picked up from Best Buy for $278 CAD.

I have a line on the Energy Take 5.2 5 speaker set for $389 CAD and the Energy S8.2 sub for $250 CAD.

I think that will be a pretty decent start for me.

While this may seem like a rather rudimentary question, is there a preferable guage of speaker wire or is this system not going to be affected that much.

All info appreciated, I quite enjoy the range of opinions.

Anything would be better than the $80 boombox I had in college!

How much is that Infinity setup, $500? Infinity isn't a bad starter -- that's what I initially had.

Other options in that range:

<a href=http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/offer-listing/B000099SYI/ref=dp_bb_a//103-8880311-0167865?condition=new/>Cerwin Vega V-500 System, $430</a>

<a href=http://www.soundcity.com/info/cinema110.html>Paradigm Cinema 110 CT, $624</a>

<a href=http://www.sounddistributors.com/buynow.asp?action=detail&prid=1165&crid=&cat_name=Search%3A+++>Carver TS451S Home Theater System, $725</a>

Something worth considering is, if you want speakers that will last and have resale value, you might want to spend your wad on just the front speakers, and wait to gradually build the rest. Depending on where you go to school, you could end up in a tiny dorm room that won't fit six speakers.

Denon, Harman/Kardon and Pioneer are all starting to come out with models that connect to your computer via USB or ethernet. But in the lower price ranges you can just connect to an aux RCA. Check out places like http://www.6ave.com for previous year's models on sale.

I had the infinity c25 and thats a really good center chanel but sold it to buy the Acoustech line of speakers... great value for the amount of product you get. If you like horn tweeters and like movies.... these speakers rock!!!

ok, what about the denon. is it powerful enough to handle those, or similar speakers?
