How much is that Infinity setup, $500? Infinity isn't a bad starter -- that's what I initially had.

Something worth considering is, if you want speakers that will last and have resale value, you might want to spend your wad on just the front speakers, and wait to gradually build the rest. Depending on where you go to school, you could end up in a tiny dorm room that won't fit six speakers.
Denon, Harman/Kardon and Pioneer are all starting to come out with models that connect to your computer via USB or ethernet. But in the lower price ranges you can just connect to an aux RCA. Check out places like
