First thread posted thanks for having me. I just moved so I got some new toys. I am running cables behind the wall and want to make sure I don't forget anything before I seal up the wall. This is what I have so far.

HDMI from reciever to tv
cable from cable box
component from reciever to tv
analog audio from reciever to tv

Here's what I have
Samsung LNS5296dpk
Onkyo av reciever TX-SR505
Panasonic DVD-R Dmr-Es25
Motorola Comcast cable box Dct-3412 dvr duel tuner

I haven't hooked anything up in a number of years, thanks for your help.

How come you aren't using the receiver as the switching point? If I'm not mistaken, the 505 has HDMI and Component as well as optical and coaxial audio connections. What's the analog to the TV for?

Do you have a surround speaker setup? Will have in the future? Needs speaker wires. How about a powered sub? Needs a good coax from the receiver to it and 120V power. Now is the time to prewire, or remodel later:D
How long is that HDMI cable? If short, probably not an issue. If long, you need one with a large wire gauge.
What kind of cable from cable box? Digital audio, maybe in the future? Preplan now, it's cheap.
Perhaps an HDMI from cable box when you upgrade to digital TV service?

I thought I needed the analog to connect the reciever to the tv. I would like to run everything thru the reciever.
Connecting that way what would have to go to the tv?

I do have a surround system 7.1. I have digital dvr service with HDMI. I plan on running the HDMI cables from the cable box and the DVD recorder into the reciever then up to the tv. Do I run the comcast cable thru the recorder then up to the tv?

Well, if you will operate your 7.1 every time you watch TV, then yes. If you watch Tv casually, news etc, and just use the TV speakers, then you may want to run two cables, HDMI to receiver if your cable box has this capability activated, or will in the future so you can watch digital TV and perhaps component to the TV for casual watching. The only issue going to the receiver is at times the so called 'handshaking' through the receiver that the digital HDMI needs may be tricky or bothersome. If you run the component to the TV, you would also need audio to the TV from the cable box.
