New home theater projector 3500$ or less

What are people’s thought on best bang for your buck for a new projector trying to spend 3500$ for less, home movie viewing kids gaming. I don’t need the darkest darks or brightest brights, goes into a dedicated blacked out theater room replacing a JVC DLA-RS46u

I wish some people had replied to you here.... I am in the exact same ballpark, prior projector was a BenQ HT3550 4k projector. Started dropping pixels and rather than just replacing a 5 year old projector (although it has been fantastic)... I thought I would start researching the new projectors and technologies - such as laser... bummed you haven't had a reply on here after 10 days... looks like these forums are about dead nowadays...

In any case, if you were wondering, I am going for the BenQ HT5550... I have owned 2 BenQs through the years and have been very happy with them.

I would get a laser Epson 4K. After owning Lamp/bulb projectors for many years and manual lens Shift/zoom, I would never go back. Gotta be laser 4K, power lens, and at least 2700+ Lumens for me. Everyone is different.

For a fully blacked-out theater room, I’d focus more on contrast and image quality than max brightness. Under $3,500, Epson LS11000 is a strong option, and BenQ HT4550i is good value if you want to spend less.


Since your room is dark, a good white cinema screen around 1.0–1.1 gain would probably make more sense than ALR.

Not much difference in price between the Epson LS11000 vs LS12000. Might as well get the LS12000.
