so a VERY large electronics store in my state is going out of business.....and today i got the Klipsch HDT500 set for literally half what they are sold at from best buy down the street....i could not pass it up.......

anyway i need a really good receiver now.......the speakers are 100w 8ohm speakers as i believe most are.....so a receiver that fits that bill is a must....i got my tax returns back and have decent money......BUT im not willing to spend a ton on this receiver......

as far as components go, i have my xbox360 (HDMI) the wii (analog) and my DVD player (progressive scan) i know get an HDMI DVD player.....but this one has served me well and when it dies ill get a new one....

now i have seen some receivers that upconvert analog which is good cause i wont have to send more cables to the tv. but i don't think i have seen any that will upconvert the component cables of my DVD player....but whatever.....mostly im looking for a solid receiver thats $500.00ish that will push these little klipsch speakers till the day i decide to upgrade them.

there are a few Onkyo receivers i like, denon is kinda pricey........never had a sony receiver what about those?

HELP..........id like to go get this thing tomorrow!!!!

OK so with the Yamaha v667 and the Onkyo 708, with the component in for my DVD, and the analog in for my wii, and the HDMI in for my XBOX ....out of those 3 what all needs to from receiver to TV? i know the HDMI will need to go to TV, but does either of those up-convert the analog and that component through the HDMI out?

another question...........we have the cheap cable package...its the small box with just the coaxial cable in and out. we mostly watch dvd's for high volume.

anyway that being said, it sont look like i can use that onkyo 708 for my cable can i?

I don't know of any AVR that accepts a cable connection. Can't you talk to your cable company about getting a different box?

thats the thing we have the low end box and as of now dont need anything more, we dont watch movies on cable therefor we have the $19.99 a month package which is just basic channels and all local channels.

do i maybe plug cable into tv like now, and is there a audio out option on the tv to take that sound to the receiver?

Most TV's have an audio out via a optical connection. What kind of TV do you have and I'll check real quick for you? Brand and model number please.

You do have digital optical out...so you'll be good to go.

which is better audio for my dvd player to use then for audio, it has both digital outputs, optical and the orange jack audio out?

I prefer the optical comparted to the coaxial, don't know if its better or not though.

ok last question (hopefully) between my choices of the onkyo nr708 and the yamaha rx-v667

the yamaha has 90w x 7

the onkyo has 110w x 7

the yamaha is $50.00 cheaper too.

so with the klipsch HDT500 will i notice the difference between either receiver? which one would you suggest?

Either one of those receivers will suit you fine. Best thing to look at is what options each one has and is better for you.

do you suppose those wattages are RMS? and likely to go up here and there, but never down?

Those wattages are max output and I doubt you'll ever get that high.
