New help with woofers and amps

I purchased a system in a box a few years ago and have been very unhappy with the performance of the bass, because it is a passive woofer. I also had a pair of 10" woofers in a box in my car. I no longer have the car, but I kept the box with the woofers.

1) Can I use these woofers in the house and would the box require an additional amp to push them. I believe that my system is pushing 80 watts to the sub. Is this enough or will I ruin the speakers because of a lack of power.

2) If you do recommend the use of an amp, I also have the amps that I used in the car, however power becomes an issue is there a way to use the car amps in the house without installing a car battery to power the amp.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
