New Head End Guidance on a $1500 Budget

Hey all first time post. I am wanting to upgrade my head end equipment meaning receiver, dvd/cd player and possibly adding a dedicated amplifier. It has been a long time since even looking at equipment and would like some help to decide what will work best for my setup. I am currently running an Onkyo TX-SR700, Def Tech BP 2000 fronts which have powered subs built in, Def Tech BP10 rears and Def Tech C/L/R 3000 Center for a 5.1 setup. The DVD/CD player is a Toshiba HD-A35 which is a joke I know, but I cant complain for a $100 player.
My main goal is to figure out what will work best the speakers I currently have. Should I buy a separate amplifier like the Emotiva UPA-7 and a decent AV receiver with all the latest decoders or should I stick with an all in one unit like the Onkyo TX-NR3008 or similar brand that is internet ready? I am an Onkyo fan.
My theory is will I get more bang for the buck with an all-in-one receiver or should I start going with separate components like the big boys do?
Thanks in advance.

The UPA-7 should be a good choice. Pair it with a UMC-1 and forget receivers altogether. If 3D is an issue than wait out for the XMC i guess.

Receivers are a good choice if your budget is low, simply because entry level separates don't exist. But that's a big enough budget for emotiva stuff.
