Thanks for all the help everyone. Here's what I did. SVS PB 12 NSD sub on order to replace JBL. Also Mirage C-150 Center Channel speaker on order to replace the JBL Center Channel speaker. The Mirage center should go better with the Mirage fronts. The reciever upgrade is on hold as per advice till the 36" Crt starts to go.

Yes, matching the front speakers makes a lot of sense. You were hiding this small detail that the fronts were mismatched

New Receiver

Well after we received our new subwoofer and center channel speakers I couldn't wait to add a new receiver and I'm so glad I did. I ended up getting a new Onkyo 805 from Vanns and the first thing my wife said is how much cleaner (her words) the sound is now. This Onkyo was so easy to set up. We just love it. I got a feeling we will be getting the new flat pannel tv within a year or so now. And we also have our eye on one of those OPPO DVD Players that are so popular on this site. Thanks all for your help.

Any of the brands you listed will be an improvement over Sony. Onkyo is the flavor of the year; for good reason.
Do you have a budget in mind?

That's a pretty broad statement. You're saying that even the bottom of these lines is better than the top of the Sony line?
