New Dayton B-652 with AMT Tweeter

I think the stock dome tweeter is acceptable with the right high pass filter. And the Goldwood woofers need a much bigger cabinet. Plus, the cabinet's so cheap, no one is going to be willing to pay what it would cost to buy new drivers. I wish I could post the 652 air's FR, but it's too big for me to upload from my computer given the forum's tight file size limitation.
If I wanted to toy, I would still buy/try the Audax tweeters - I think PSB used some similar
to them, in the original Alpha speakers. If I was to really toy with the Daytons, it would be
for fun - and then donate/give them away.

Anyway for me I am going to look at something higher - I do not expect the Daytons to be
any better than the Auvio (RadioShack) speakers that I bought awhile back. Which looks and
favors the Monoprice 6 inch cheap 2-way.

Some of them past RadioShack (Optimus) speakers, were somewhat decent and better than the Auvio
current day offerings and the likes.

Means manufacturing process isn't well controlled IMO, and they don't measure the speakers or even sample speakers after they're built. That's why they're cheap :)
However most people who buy these type speakers, have not owned much and would maybe enjoy them >
And want something more than TV speakers, and them little squeaky, squawky type boxes - And are not
looking for so-called audiophile mentality sound performance.

Exactly. If they start controlling things and deliver a good enough speaker, they won't be that inexpensive anymore. These were meant to be cheap so there wasn't a priority on them having everything be 100% consistent.

I've got the Micca MB42x's and I've read that review, but I can't figure out how to apply the DSP like he has. I've downloaded the program, but have no clue what to do after it. Wanted to at least try out the DSP 'fix' for these and see how they sound with it

Hello Dennis,

Any chance of seeing a comparison measurement of both speakers? Also, what is your measurement axis, and at what distance were the measurements taken?

We measured several B652-AIR speakers from stock and they matched each other very closely, and looked somewhat different from the measurement you posted of the speaker you suspected of having an issue.

I have a personal pair of B652-AIR speakers, and they match to within 1 dB. I don't notice any difference between them in listening.

Thanks!

Regardless of the outcome, it's nice to see that you guys care enough to monitor the forums and start asking questions. Especially for such a cheap speaker!

I'll post the second sample when I get a chance. I use Praxis (designed by Bill Waslo, the same guy who did your OmmiMic), measured on the tweeter axis at 1 meter. But I tried different mic distances and locations, with basically the same outcome. Good to see you're monitoring the board.

aside from the sound, i think these speakers need to change out the spring clip speaker wire connectors to 5 way binding posts which should be easy enough.

Well CNET has done their quickie review - and they tend to like most things
Also, where is he getting 65 hz bass from these things?:)
Dayton B652-AIR: Dirt-cheap speakers aren't supposed to sound like this - CNET

Brent Butterworth knows about them - and plans to review them - should have
some measurements coming from him.
I pay absolutely no attention to professional reviews, including a couple of favorable ones of my speakers. The only thing I lend credibility to is John A's Stereophile measurements.
