Fair enough, but my advice is simply to remain patient. IMHO, the Ultra bookshelves don't leave a lot on the table, particularly when properly integrated with a couple of high quality subs. I can't say that I would sell them in hopes of finding a diamond in the rough that sell for half the cost, MTM or not. Even with speakers like the LS50s or something like the new Philharmonitor, you may or may not find the improvement to be worth the added expense/hassle.
Steve, I agree 100%! Not really in any hurry. Just wished the Polk RTi's held me over a bit longer. Like all things in life, some things don't go as planned. I don't feel like my investment in the Ultras was a bad one. In fact, very happy I have them. I can easily say they are better than the Paradigm Studio 20 v.3's that I once owned. Thus, the 20 v.3's would get quite fatiguing at times and the low end was a bit over-done for my tastes. The Ultras have none of those issues. It is a very balanced speaker from top to bottom imho.

Cheers,

Phil

I wish I could count how many buyers of the LS50 have said "keeper" and done so.
Ken, I did a search to see if there was a KEF dealer near me. Unfortunately, there isn't. However, came across the Elac Uni-Fi UB5. That looks like an interesting speaker as well. But, it is going for only $500 a set. Wonder how it compares to the LS50. That would go for an interesting comparison.

Cheers,

Phil

I am sorry. Just a bit confused here. What are you saying? Need some clarification if you don't mind?

Oh trust me I have BIG plans! They just have NOT come to fruition just yet. But, it is just a matter of time really. At least, that is how I hope my plans turn out......LOL!!!!

My issue with your plans (that sounds rather dysfunctional, doesn't it!;)) is that you are selling your only pair of speakers. I believe Murphy orders and builds to order so he is not carrying several $1,000's in inventory. It might take a couple of weeks to get the BMR's (I am totally guessing at two weeks, and could be longer if he has other obligations).
That is a long time to go without any speakers.
If your card can carry an extra $1500, you can order the LS50's from Amazon. Their returns are very easy and they are quick to credit the refund back to you once they get the speakers back (none of this 6 weeks BS). Ideally you will still have them in house when the BMR's arrive and you could compare them with the KEFs to know for certain which you like better.
If $1500 is pushing things, perhaps the Uni-Fi at $500 will work? They are supposed to be shipping in 3 days! It would be interesting to know how many pre-orders Amazon has for these.

The LS50's are NOT part of my plans and never have been. Just would like to hear them or ANY other KEF speaker. The concentric drivers do interest me though. Watched a video of AJ and his new UNi Fi line where the interviewer was mentioning the LS50's. Just am curious as to how they BOTH compare.

I am also fully aware that if I opt for the BMR's that there will be some down time. A few weeks is really NOT that big of deal to me. Am certain the wait time will be worth it in the end. No worries. However, would like to sell my Ultras before placing my order for the BMR's. That way, I won't be overloading my cc.

The idea of me demoing the JBL 530's and/or the Chanes A2.4's was to merely check them out. Not necessarily keep. Both offer return policies. But, the Chanes will cost if I send them back. Right now it doesn't really matter anyways, because the 530's are NOT in stock and Jon said it will be at least 2-months or so before the A2.4's start shipping.

Cheers,

Phil

Having heard the SVS Ultra and LS50 at an audio shop, playing the same music from the same source, I respectfully disagree.

Disagree with what Ken? Personally, I have never heard the LS50's or any other KEF speaker. In fact, there is NOT a dealer even remotely close to me. However, I am interested in a concentric drivers though. Guess they are similar to a co-axial speaker. Not too sure but hope to read up on it some more. Just a bit confused here?

Wrong thread to reply to Phil, sorry. I do wish you could hear KEF speakers. All (other than the cheap C series that actually suck) have the Ini-Q "coincidental" (their words, not mine) driver and their Tangerine waveguide over the tweeter. That controls breakup at the highest frequencies and the shape of the midrange cone is said to mitigate phase interference between the two speakers in the same space.

I find that though it does start to fall off above 10kHz, the treated (anodized?) aluminum cones and design are exceptional for midrange on up to that point and that's where voices and the bulk of musical instruments live. They have to be heard to understand what I mean.

It is okay Ken. No big deal. Hearing KEF speakers is certainly on my to-do list. Really likes those pics of the LS50's. WOW! Have a good night.

Phil, have you tried the dealer search function on KEF's website? I checked around and see three in the Louisville KY area and 3 in the St.Louis MO area. I don't know where you are in relation to those cities.

http://www.kef.com/common/find_a_retailer.aspx?cid=6
Yes I checked the Dealer Locator. Louisville is about a 2-hour drive from me. Next time that I am up that way, maybe I can check them out. Just depends on what is going on at the time. St. Louis is about 3.5- hours away. Indianapolis is about 3-hours away. Too bad, Evansville, IN does not have one. I am 10- miles from there.

Cheers,

Phil
