New Axiom VS Series

Axiom has announced it is offering custom finish real wood veneers with their VS (Vassallo Series). With all manufacturing and finish work done at their factory, Axiom has really elevated their product line to a whole new level. Looks like the fit and finish will finally match their excellent engineering. If I didn’t already have my speaker situation set, an Axiom setup with the M80’s in a custom finish would be high on my list.

From the March edition of the Axiom Newsletter:

"With this newsletter, Axiom is announcing a new series of custom-finished real-wood loudspeakers named the Vassallo Series, "VS", to honor Joe Vassallo, Axiom's longest standing team member and habitual innovator, who has developed this project from concept to completion.

With increasing demand from customers who wanted the option of choosing real-wood veneers, Joe set about deciding what special details to offer in a premium version of our Millenia series.

Initially he had to narrow down the choice of real wood veneers to five from an almost unlimited variety of woods (in "cherry" alone, there are dozens of variations available). Joe then tried a wide variety of stains on each veneer to determine which stains showed off the unique features of each wood to its best. After viewing the samples, we selected six veneers-knotty pine, walnut, cherry, oak, maple, and rosewood.

The result is truly a customizable speaker: first, choose the speaker you'd like. Then choose the wood veneer that best suits your application. Pick a natural clear finish, or one of our five special stains, ranging from a delicate buttercup to a rich bordeaux. Next, choose from satin, semi-gloss or upgrade to a piano deep gloss finish.

Really exotic wood veneers will still be available and individually priced. Axiom will also offer a custom matching service for customers who want to send us a wood sample of cabinetry they may be building. We'll match the speaker veneers and finish to the customer's sample

Finally, the really fun part: pick your accessory package and grille color. You can order your feet, spikes and logos in one of three different finishes: chrome, gold or gloss-black (below), and grilles in one of six colors.

Here are prototype M2 VS cabinets finished in Rosewood in Natural with a Satin Finish, Classic Oak in Natural with a Satin finish; Maple in Natural with Satin Finish and Cherry in Natural with Satin Finish.

As a final touch, each customer receives their own personalized leather folder with their owner's manuals and care instructions.

A bit off topic, but I'm VERY impressed by this forum. I just came across a 3 month old, 44 page thread, in the Steam Vent section of the forum, where everybody is debating intelligent design vs. evolution. I only made it about half way through before I burned out, but I'm absolutely AMAZED that a thread about such a hot button topic lasted so long (and is STILL ongoing) without several stabbings and a few shootings. In the first 22 pages, there were a few nicks and cuts, but nobody had to go to the hospital. For the most part, everybody kept it from being personal. Can you imagine how long a thread like that would last at AVS?

 Thank you!!....coming from you, it means A TON!:)

Yeah, looks like Audioholics has nice atmosphere for learning and courteous "debate" (unlike the trainwreck that has become AVS)....I really miss seeing more input from the likes of you, Yates, Noussiane, Mullen, Bearden, and others, and it is a huge load of excitement to see some of you in these neck of the woods! ;)

ps- I've been following Craig's shootout/review of the HO (vs Ultra), and looks like you got a really awesome Sub out with the HO

IMO, the rosewood needs to be darker, and the drivers need a facelift (different colour maybe?). They look to cheesey with the cabinet finish.

AH! I see. You consider posting a photo of an Axiom speaker in the Boston Cherry vinyl finish, claiming it's the Rosewood wood veneer is "playing it classy." Interesting. Perhaps YOU forgot which forum you're on. :p ;)

Also, if you wish to be accurate (and, based on the above cited misleading inaccuracy, I sorta doubt that is your wish) I'm an Axiom, av123, Audioholics, AVForum, Secrets, HT forum, Spot, AVS "guy." :D

Ha, you forgot Avtalk.

This is rosewood (sorry for pulling up the boston, I was using it as an example of what rosewood should look like, needs more red).

This is the speaker.
