New AV Receiver Or Wait

I currently have a Denon 3802 which I've enjoyed but I am redoing my backyard sound system and want to have 6 or 7 speakers outside and will use the Denon to run 7 channel stereo. I'm planning on getting the Pioneer Elite 72 or 74 as I've seen excellent reviews and easy setup. My Denon was confusing to setup and I'm not sure if I ever reached its potential due to this. My tv is a Mitsubishi with a DVI input. With the new formats coming out soon would I miss out on anything or would the new DVD HD players have the proper decoders? I don't want to regret getting a new receiver now but do want to get my backyard system going soon to enjoy. Thanks

My own opinion is to get an inexpensive receiver like the Onkyo 503 or Pioneer 816 now (for either the outside or inside system), then wait a year or two and see where the market stands. Who knows, maybe every $500 receiver will have 3 HDMI 1.1 or 1.3 inputs by then?

if you want to get your outdoor setup running asap...

get a stereo receiver (with pre-out) and a behringer a500 amp and you can run 4 pairs of speakers for your outdoor setup

the receiver and amp should only set you back no more than 500USD

that should tide you over in the mean time
