Thanks for the link. This review does seem more balanced from what he have seen in the past on this product. However it would be nice to see a review of this product that doesn't keep restating manufacturers marketing literature (particularly about upsampling) as gospel truths.
We did our own article on
upsampling vs oversampling that shows upsampling is a valid method for handling digital audio, but is usually no better (and sometimes) worse than typical 8fs oversampling found in 44kHz/16bit PCM audio. I am tired of seeing 44kHz/16 bit PCM given a bad name. While the CD format isn't necessarily the pinnacle of audio reproduction, it certainly is no slouch, nor does it introduce the artifacting (if properly implemented) so many audiophiles claim. When Anthem upgrades the D1 with Firewire this winter, we will likely request a sample for review and promise not to simply spit out marketing literature within the review that seems to be standard practice these days with some publications.
