New 804's, Arcam AVR 350 versus Yamaha RXV2700

Features versus performance is the dilema. The Yamaha is loaded with features and cheaper than the Arcam. Is it snobbery, or is the Yamaha RXV2700 receiver really less of a product than the Arcam AVR350. Which receiver will treat my new 804's better. No comments about seperates as I have no space or money for that solution.

Yes there is snobbery and the RXV2700 is a very good receiver and may sound different than the Arcam. Different does not mean better necessarily, just different. I am a Denon guy, so I would go with a Denon 4306 or 4806, but be sure to leave some money in the budget for room treatments, that is where the real SQ work is done IMO. The receivers play a much smaller role in SQ. If it comes right down to it, buy the less expensive receiver to open up funds for room treatments.

ARCAm 350 vs Pioneer VSX-84TXSi

Have you heard the new Pioneer VSX-84TXSi - if so how would you compare the ARCAM, Yamaha and Pioneer

I'd take the Arcam without a second thought. Receivers do play a smaller role than speakers, but I've heard the Arcams and they are definitely higher quality sounding than average. In terms of sound quality, Yamaha and Pioneer are not in the same ballpark as Arcam IMO.

If you read the British reviews, they like the Yamaha RX-V2600 and Denon AVR3805 and the Arcam AVR300 all the same. Funny here in NA, people seem to think the Arcam is so much better. I love the sound of the AVR300 when I was shopping for speakers but I ended up finding the 3805 just as good. The 804 should do fine with the 2700.

If you search the web hard, you can probably find one more. What*Hi*Fi magazine is another one that reviewed and compared the Denon 3805, Yamaha 2500 (or equivalent, can't remember for sure), a Pioneer model, HKAVR635, the Arcam 300 and the NADT773. I think it was the Nov or Dec 2005 (or 2004) issue. Sorry it was too long ago. I do own a copy but I am not sure where I put it. What*Hi*Fi reviews are not available on line, you have to buy the hard copy from bookstores such as Indigo/Chapters. They seem to like the 3805 and the Arcam AVR300 best but not the NAD.
