Hi there,
I just convinced the wife that I needed a 50 inch TV. I got a Sony vega LCD, I am wondering about connections, is HDMI the way to go??? I have HD cable coming in, and how should I hook up my reciver to the TV and DVD player, go stright from the DVD or out of the TV, and should I use optical or component conections, as you can probably tell from my questions I am a novice at this so any help is greatly appericated, thank you for your time

P.S. do I really nee to spend 150$ or so on a single HDMI cable??? (monster 1000, or will a monster 400 be just as good?)

Get all of your cables at cablesforless.com

Digital connections like HDMI, DVI, and optical are not at all dependent on cable quality as long as it works. A more expensive cable will make 0 difference.

You mean she didn't want it and won't watch it? :D

You may want to consider having it ISF calibrated for accurate video reproduction. http://www.imagingscience.com/isf-trained.cfm

If you are using HDMI/DVI cable, your DVD player has to have those output.
HDMI cable is not sensitive to brands if the run is short, otherwise you do need a proper cable to reduce loss as digital video is very high bit rate. BUT, stay away from Monster, they do get expensive. Try the ones suggested or the recommended cables at this site are great as well.

Optical cable is for digital audio, not video signals.

Your cable box video output will dictate what cable you will use from it.
