New 5.1 Setup V's Old Speakers

I have been looking at purchasing a new 5.1 speaker setup. I have looked at a variety of alternative manufacturers such as Axiom, Aperion, Boston Acoustics etc.

Presently I have a 2 speaker setup either side of my Panasonic plasma. The speakers are Wharfedale Denton, purchased a long time ago but still sounding good to me.

Can anyone give me an insight into how much better a new 5.1 setup might be....say using Axiom M22's as mains.

Thanks

don't make any decisions off of my opinion, but if money is a problem, you could keep your two speakers, and get a new 5.1 reciever, and add 3 more of that same speaker, plus a subwoofer. just an idea.

Thanks for the suggestion. I already thought of this however the problem is that the speakers are so old that I'm not sure that they could be matched to current Wharfedale equipment.

I already have the 5.1 receiver - I just havent hooked up the speakers as yet.

Scot, I think going out and auditioning speakers in your price range to compare to your existing Wharfedales will give you a much needed perspective for your upgrade plans. That is step one IMO.

yeah, but make sure you get a decent subwoofer. mine sucks. my speakers (30 Hz) go lower than my subwoofer (35 Hz). if i get an amplifier, i might just sell the damned thing. then i might get another one.

speaking of speakers, i've only heard one pair (mine), so i can't really compare. but my RTi8s do a pretty good job.
