Maaannn. I sure have put myself in a bind now that I have all of this info....... I will have to sit back a maybe flip a coin or something.
That's what we're here for. It's no fun if you just walk into a store and buy something. You need to know everything you can first to confuse the hell out of yourself and then settle on something after 2 months of searching.

We'll be here through the search though.

Oh and don't just flip a coin.... someone could switch in a double headed one and then you could be screwed.

Yamaha 697

A very good unit, and can probably get for less than $400 at places like Onecall.com with warranty and no shipping....but why not a 7.1 receiver for about the same price and be set if you change your mind on video etc....for example, Yamaha has an RXV659 unit with pure stereo that bypasses sound fields as well as 7 channel stereo if you happen upon more speakers....unless you want to go with very high quality separates which few do, I dont understand the mindset to buy a 2 channel device at this point in time. They probably incorporate the same electronics as the AV receivers.....more for less really....fewer and fewer made, mostly for old timers like me and, perhaps the process of making fewer adds to the cost per unit....

I have a dedicated Onkyo system for my home AV system right now. You can not add an EQ if wanted. i have also played music out of this system an it bites for some reason...

pure direct

pure direct has no bass management....if you want the sub involved, you use 2 channel setting vs pure direct..

FYI.....I will be purchasing new speakers as well. I want a complete new system...
The Polks are RTI-7'S
Not sure on the DCM's......They are a triangle shaped very thin speaker. 16years old.
Perfect opportunity for good system matching. Measuements and opinions can be useful when considering what to buy, but nothing can take the place of actually listening to equipment, preferably in your own home. Better hifi shops will loan you stuff to try. If you can, take advantage of such a service and you will be sure to get something you'll love for a long time to come.

I took home five different integrated over the course of two months before I made my decision.

On a related note: Keep in mind when shopping for quality two-channel, the higher up the food chain you go, the less likely you'll find tape loops and tone controls.---and the less likely you'll need and EQ.

Having the loop is important to me. Would love to find a unit that didn't need it but to have the option just in case is a bonus.

After looking at all of the products out there, it seems the Outlaw unit would be the best option. It has just about everything in it I would ever need.
