Here's breaking news on SVS's new SB12-Plus. It's 14" cubed, and possibly a servo sealed sub with a loaded, mammoth amp. Lets hope it puts the Onix 12" and Velo HGS series in their place with its $700 - $800 price tag. Finally, something from SVS that will fit in smaller rooms.

No "Ginsu" knives ... but wait... there is more: The long awaited SB12-Plus is coming to pre-orders soon. Small, affordable and with performance that will (shocker) set a new standard in price/performance in the micro-class of subwoofers, it's probably the most anticipated new SVS product in years. A mere 14" sealed cube with a slick custom grill and simple, elegant styling, it will offer virtually every control and hookup option we've crammed into a sub, and then some. While still eschewing those gimmicky features in search of a problem, the SB12-Plus packs depth and linearity you formerly couldn't find unless spending far more. Coming in two kinds of black and three wood finishes, this over-achiever will range from $700 to $800. If you need small, but always craved the superlative music and movie performance of a real subwoofer (truth be told, few in the micro-class really rise to the definition) ... help is arriving in the form of the first really compact SVS sub. Pre-orders planned for July, with shipping expected in late August or early September. Like the PB12-NSD, this new SVS sub will also be available to our overseas customers.

How large is "mammoth"?

My guess is at least the 500 watt Bash amp, but because it's sealed, we may see the 900/1000 watt Bash version. That driver in a 14" cubed enclosure is going to need some serious power to get it going. The parametric eq will definitely help matters.

If it's 900/1000....I'm in love! :D

is it just me or are they trying to bring down the Velo giant.

Their trying, and so far... its working. They have them beat in the ported class, but now they need the sealed class.

If this sub has 1000RMS, a servo, and an EQ... so long DD series.

there's a comment on AVS mentioning that while these new sealed subs are "musical" they only extend to 20hz +-

Im sure it won't play as loud as any of their ported subs, considering the sealed design. It looks like it is targeted for smaller rooms in any case. Though if it is more musical I might be interested. SVS has long made cliams that their ported lines are musical. I think they realize they aren't as musical as many people would hope.

Theres no fixed definition of "Musical". Ones musical might differ from anothers.

For instance, I would like a musical sub to play to 20Hz, and a theater sub to play to 15Hz. Others would like a Musical sub to play to 30Hz. And then theres THD, GD, and all that other stuff to consider.

I had saw SVS post said more abt the SB12plus:

This model turned out surprisingly powerful. Well, maybe not too surprising as we have been working on it for 2 years now. I've lost count of how many ported, slot ported, sealed, PRed, dual PRed, 10", 12" designs we tried...all with anywhere from 200w to 600w. For what our original "target" was...this is the design that scores closest to a direct "hit". Pretty small, and a little rolloff <40hz(since it will almost exclusively be used in small-medium room sizes). Very good output in the "musical" range(which is widely considered to be 42-45hz and up)...matches up well to the PB10 in that regard. And although its output in the 16-32hz octave won't match the PB10...it will offer true in room extension down to 18-20hz in small-medium rooms. (down to about 22-24hz anechoic). Built in parametric EQ, nice XLR ins/outs...pretty nice unit imo..

Ummm okay. If there's no fixed definition then why bother with the word at all? My reference to "musical" has less to do with extension than the explanation you are offering. I take musical to mean accurate control, which most sealed subs excel over ported ones. In general ported subs exhibit lower extension and higher output, but at the expense of control. SVS has done a comendable job making their ported designs as good as they are, but a sealed design typically sounds better for music where accuracy is more critical in my opinion,
