Network through AVR

Who is ready to help with this? Remember I am not good with computers!

I have the ethernet cable hooked up and the AVR sees my computer. I can play internet radio but it says "Greg's PC- NOT AUTORIZED" when I try to go to WMP. I take it this is some type of sharing issue? I remember setting "sharing" for the PS3 but I dont remember how. My first goal is to be able to play WMP11 from my computer.

I assume I should also do the firmware upgrade at this point but it doesnt say how in the manual.

Never mind on the first one. WMP11 up and running through AVR.

Lets talk about firmware upgrades.

Ok zone 2 up and running and will play WMP11.

You guys are awesome!

Found the firmware update. Estimated time is 75 minutes so at first I was thinking -that would give me plenty of time to run the ethernet cable through the walls and attic. I then realized that I cant do that as the cable is doing the update.

Hey Greg, how is your conversation with ParadigmDawg going? He seems to be very helpful!

Firmware update complete without issues.

Heading up to the attic to re-run the patio speakers and run the ethernet cable. Wish me luck up there and thanks for all the suggestions!

I'm glad we could all be so much help.

Sorry I was off to dance class with the kid. I thought you were not going to the attic any more.;)

It's like I am all alone here.

Patio is done not sure I have the energy to do the ethernet cable tonight. It is still 150 degrees up there!

Do you have to run he ethernet cable through the attic? You may need a refreshment.

Up one wall, through the attic and down another wall. I am going to wait for the weekend.

I like being able to play all my music from the CPU to the system, I was uncertain if zone 2 would do this but it does.

Since you guys won't help me with this, I am going to make you follow along!

Here is the hole in the office wall where the ethernet cable will goto the router. This would be easier if I had a helper but everyone is working. Fishing it alone will cause a lot of trip up and down from the attic.

This is where it will come out and plug into the AVR>

Here is the cable.

I am headed up to drill the first hole through the header and see if I can fish it down.

Damn, Dawg.

You D'man because I would have just gotten a WiFi Denon or something. That's way too much work!

Ok, here is the trip up. I put 2 flood lights up so I could see.

Wouldn't you know it, the header was right under an airconditioner duct. Luckily, I pierced a small rod, with an orange flag on it, through the ceiling right by the wall I need to drill so my "spot" was easy to find.

Once I got up there the drill bit I had was to small for a hole to handle the fish tape and cable. I did an unweighted drop and hoped for the best. I have never had this happen before but both ends dropped perfectly on the first try. A cut off coat hanger was used to grap the cable from the new holes in the wall.

Now I need to run to Home Depot and figure out what wall plates I want to use. This will be preceded by a shower as it was ungodly hot up there today. I actually stated feeling dizzy and sick. Had to go in the backyard and cool off with plenty of water.

I will provide the finished pictures when I return.

That would be good if he was doing music but this is for his AVR and will be doing firmware updates. Doing firmware with wireless is russian roulette.
I don't know what gear you use for your wireless network but wifi can be just as stable as ethernet if set up correctly. Also that linksys is a wireless bridge so all it does is convert an ethernet signal to wireless.

And there it is boys and girls.

Home Depot didnt have the face plates I wanted so this will have to do for now.

And yes Gus, I could have went wireless or I could have purchased Denon's wireless stubby but I went the free route!

This looks a little tacky but it's behind my credenza so it will never be seen.

Sorry Gus we are going to have to disagree on this one. I have been in the computer world for quite a while and there are just too many variables with wireless that make it unsafe to do mission critical services. I have installed wireless bridges & routers and use them with many client devices and I can monitor signal strengths variance by more than 60% with the wireless device in the same room. By all means surf the net, listen to music, whatever but I could not ever use or recommend it for that use.

Well there you go another job done. What plates were you looking at? Are you going to cut the wire and use keystone jack? This would snap into that plate.
