Network capabilities on receivers

Folks,

Several months ago the following excerpt was a part of an article here on Audioholics as a feature of the Yamaha Z11.

"The RX-Z11’s network capabilities (including Windows Vista OS [WMP 11] and Microsoft PlaysForSure support) greatly increases the number of entertainment sources beyond the norm, including the playback of music (MP3, WMA, WAV and AAC files) stored on a PC or NAS drive with media server functionality and Internet radio with MP3 support. The RX-Z11 can also act as a remote client to Yamaha’s premiere MusicCAST music distribution system, such as MCX-2000."


Does this mean that connecting the internet router to the ethernet input will also allow video content (e.g. youtube etc ...) to be processed by the Z11 and sent to the TV screen via the HDMI output ?

correct, some lower priced units can do as well. Tvs with "home media connect" can also(example pio elite) the reverse feed the avr

Bandphan, can you please elaborate on how the Z11 or lower priced units could do this ? The manual only refers to music but not a word on video signals.

im not sure i saw your last paragrapgh when i responded, the receviers arent video enabled as of yet(the new pioneer elites will be) only with the tvs as of now, sorry for the confusion. Look to see this within the next season

I agree. The functionality of the PS3 for streaming, web browsing, etc is far more cost effective than the high $$$ receivers.
