Needs display flat screan low budget

I am helping a co worker... number one we want the cost to stay down on this and also the easy of use to be high.

What she would like is a flat screan(she used the term LCD but when asked directly didn't know there was a different kind other than LCD) about 36 inches. Wide screan is something she is interested in also. It has to be able to have a dvd and VHS connection for it and the ability to hook up the super nintendo and PS2. She loves mario cart I think ;)

I know NOTHING about displays. I mean nothing. I have and always will be a fan of projectors. I do understand however it's not for everyone, and in the past when looking at displays I have been fond of DLP, not that I knwo what it means, but to me the picture looked.... sharper/better/brighter/contrasted right... I don't know why it's just what I liked, even over the plasma's I have seen in most situations.

SO you guys are the best.. so Here I am. we want to keep the cost low and the ease of use high. She will be getting a new DVD & VHS player sometime soon.. and also... she would like to be able to hook up a camcorder.. I would think then it best to have front access for the red white yellow cables for a/v just for ease of access.

What should she look out for any brands to stay away from and tech she should know about? No need to go high high def. I don't think she will ever have high def or care.

In that size catagory she will probably be getting an LCD TV, plasmas generally start around 40-42 inches. For higher quality LCD tvs that aren't too expensive I perfer sharp, but since she is trying to stay pretty inexpensive of the brands that are less well known I would recommend Olevia. I thought their screens had pretty good PQ for the price range. Vizio is another to look at on the lower price range but I know their plasmas are not very good yet I have heard some good comments about their LCDs.

I have always disliked plasma displays. Every one I have seen... though beautiful.. I notice something weird when action breaks loose on a screen. I can't put my finger on it.. but it just gets all "goofey"

What brands where you looking at? That almost sounds like bad de-interlacing functions of a crappy plasma. You should go check out a Panasonic or Pioneer I doubt you would see the artifacts then.

I was actualy abotu to edit my post. A co worker has a beautiful pioneer at his home 60+ inch or so... It was amazing to be honest.. but... I ama projector guy and have a dedicated light controlled room, so for me... yeah projector FTW.

Thanks for your points of interest. Anything else to look out for. I know circuit city here has some for that size for 400-500 bucks I think. Looks like a good deal to me. I would call that the "bedroom tv" lol

I have been spoiled.

I would look at costco they generally have really good prices on decent panels. Also, if she isn't afraid buying a refurb from a reputable online dealer can save a lot of money and get a much better panel for the money.

I have a sams club membership I supose I could look there also. I have never ordered something as big as a display online. I fear shipping issues.

I will let her know though.
Much help here thanks, any good web sites to check out?

I got my screen from buydig.com without a hitch for about half the price it was in store. Just use pricegrabber or something to find the cheapest price and see if sams will match or drop theirs and if not you can always check the stores feedback by doing a google search on it. Thats what I did.
