Hi, I have an Onkyo Tx-Sr804 receiver 105W/channel. I would like to buy a 7.1 speaker system for a room 23X18X12 very open. I am considering the Axiom Epic 80 system with 2 M80 towers 1 EP600 Sub, 4QS8 surrounds and 1 VP150 center. This system is $4300. I would like to stay under $5000 but can go over. Looking for a good bang for the buck!!!

For that kind of budget you really need to go out there and audition some speakers. Call around to your local shops and see what they carry. Some brands you may want to hear would be Monitor Audio, B & W, Energy, PSB, RBH Sound, etc. Bring some of your own material to demo and do some critical listening of your own to get a feel of what your taste is like. $5k is just too much to spend without having a listen first.

Also, some stores will let you audition the speakers in your house for a certain period of time (usually 30 days or thereabouts).

Just curious. That system looks to be $3599. What made it $4000?

EDIT: My bad. I see. You just added a pair of 450's.

I purchased a bunch of the "fancy" stuff from BJ's and was not pleased with ease of use. The problem with the 10g that I purchased is that it is comprised of about 10 wire strands total(I did not count them). This makes it about as stiff as woodpecker lips:D Difficult to terminate in some cases. However, it is cl rated for inwall/ceiling use which is what I used it for in order to connect the surrounds. I used ofc 14g for mains and center all terminated w/ ban plugs.

Congrats!

I dont know if you post over on the av123 forum but I am sure everyone will want to hear your impressions. You will have a hell of a system for sure. If you can wait, with that 1k you can get dual MFW-15s with rosewood veneer panels pretty soon...I have a pair on pre-order for my rocket 760 theater.

JL Audio F113

I was just looking at that sub online last night. I don't know the company and haven't heard the sub. Everything I read online sounds good.

Yeah, that's the Belden stuff. I have the 12ga version that is equally stiff. Belden makes a couple styles of 12ga and 14ga wire, one low strand count and one higher. Make sure that when you're buying that you verify you get the higher strand count stuff so the wire is more flexible. I've also heard good things about Monster CI Pro wire. It's apparently very flexible and reasonably priced on eBay.

Speakers arrived

Got my system today! They were packaged great. All the speakers were covered in cloth, and packed in two boxes with custom foam. The large Rocket 1000's were also wood created. Everything looks beautiful, even the B stock center channel I purchased.

these speakers are big. The pictures on the net do not do justice. The wife will be freaking out tonight. I will set them up without a sub woofer to begin with. I'm saving money for the sub. I'm leaning towards a JL F113 or a elodyne DD18. Wil also chheck out the new subs from SVS when they arrive.

If you have a Radio Shack near by their 14 guage stuff will do the job. If you want more attractive, lots of folks seem to like Blue Jean made to order stuff.

Since the Rocket 1000's already have built-in 8" subs with 350W each, I'd go for the Velodyne DD18 to cover 40Hz and below. The Rocket's should put out more than enough of the uppper range bass. It would probably be easier to blend it that way also.

Only problem is my Rockets are in an tight space between the cabinet and the wall. It will probably have a bad effect on the lows.

I've heard the JL F113 is supposedly better then the DD18...

Glad to see you took my recommendation on the AV123 gear. Can't wait to read your review of them. Congratulations on the purchase. :D
