HEllo everyone, I am a newibie here. I came here because I think you guys are the most knowledgable when it comes to sound so here goes.

Just got myself a Z4 proj so funds are limited. I have an Onkyo TX-DS484 reciever that I think I can use with my setup. I also have 2 JBL S38 speakers that Ive had for a while but never got around to using them. I think they will be good for the mains, no?
Now since I have a reciever and mains I need to get a sub, center, and surrounds...

At the Sub I am looking at a Mirage S10 that can be had for $250 right now. (I posted a seperate thread about it). Now I am looking for a good center speaker. I understand that this speaker is very important because about 80% of the sound will always be coming from it. So what would you reccomend. I am clueless about the center speaker. I am looking to spend a couple of $100 but not too much for it. Hopefully I can get something decent for around the priuce of the sub.

Also I dont need to gte awesome speakers for the rear right? My ceilings are low 6'6" so I am hoping to get little cubes or something longer but not too big. Im sorry about the long post but I need to make sure I get this right. Thank you everyone for your help.

.....MaxSE, 99 times out of 100, you are better off for the center, mains, and rears, to be a matched "brand and line"....no one here can qualifiably say what different-brand center, and different-brand rears, to match with the JBL S38 fronts....go to some Brick-and-Morter stores and listen to some centers and rears....try to narrow it down to a center and rears that sound MOST like your JBL's....any sub will mix in well if it is clean and defined....best I can do.....

.....also, guys, what problems is he in for with a ceiling of 6' 6"?....shouldn't he consider a front-firing sub?....

thanks guys. JBL center looks good. Is it the best I can get? Its at J and R for $160. Can I get anything better sounding for $200? I posted another thread on timbre matching. I am either going to use the kenwood floor or the jbl shelf which ever you guys consider to be a better speaker. Also isnt the Mirage S10 a front-firing sub? But please comment more about thsi because I still dont know what I should get. Thank you all so much for your help, I dont knoow if this would have been possible for me without you.

thanks guys. I was thinking of going with either the e10a or e20s for the surround. I prefer the 10s because they are small and look like they would be perfect, but will I hear a difference in the sound quality between those two if I use them for surround?

Also how does the JBL e250 sub compare to this?
By the way I am going to use this with a projector so I am a little worried that the gunmetal finish of the Mirage S10 is going to reflect light as opposed to the black or dark calored subs. What do you guys think?

I was going to recommend the e10 or e20 until I saw their sensitivity rating of 86dB thats quite the difference from the 90dB the rest of the system will be.

As far as sound quality it shouldn't matter to much for HT but for music it may. It's hard to tell just from specs alone.

Really? Its just 4 decibels!! lol. What does that mean though that the rears will get louder quicker than the fronts? I was hoping that when I play music to have it only play at the front speakers and sub since music doesnt have surround sound.... Is this possible?

Also is th eOnkyo TX-DS484 amp powerful enough to drive the JBL S38 speakers along witht he e35 front with the sub?

And any1 have any experience with the ec35? Will there be enough voice clarity? And is the sound soft and warm? And do you think the timber would match with the S38s?
