Need some help with buying a home theatre

Hi I'm currently looking into upgrading my home theatre package to a new full hd package. I've done some research into all the 1080p24 stuff and I assume I would be correct in thinking if my DVD player or reciever support it my tv only needs to be 1080p and doesn't need to be 1080p24 for it to work. Was looking into to the panisonic TH-42PZ700U and I am now looking at a reciever 7.1 that has 1.3a hmdi inputs ipod docking dolby true HD and a blueray DVD player to suit. Looking of spending between 6-7 grand. Would appreciate it if some one has some advice to get me on track.

Cheers,

BooBoo

I would look at the Audioholics recommended systems for $5000 (2) and $7500 to get an idea of what you can buy in the 6-7 grand region and to see how the budget might be derived.

You can then stay along those guidelines and substitute your favorite components within the budget getting advice from the forum along the way. Your receiver set up for HDMI 1.3a (processing, not just switching) and display set indicates you are on your way to choosing those components. I would recommend a PS3 for your Blu-Ray/DVD player as it seems to be the most software up-gradable option going, has very good audio/video performance, and can play games if you want to. The games look great in high resolution too. Speakers make a big difference. As a starting point I would look at the SVS SBS-01 7.1 System with PB12NSD subwoofer for $1449 which is a big bang for the buck system with good reviews. The speakers are a little on the large size so you should check dimensions to see if they are a good fit to your room. My recommendation is based on performance rather than visual appeal. You probably have room in your budget to move up a couple of notches in speakers, but I will leave that to others to recommend. I would buy cables and speaker wire from monoprice.com for about $3-$7 per cable or if you have long (10 feet plus) HDMI cables I would look at a Blue Jeans cable. You could post your room size (for subwoofer recommendations) and tentative candidates and prices. Forum members will make further recommendations on specific components. You have enough budget that you should get a good system if you shop wisely.
