zumbo or anyone with the yamaha RX-V series YPAO,

do you have a good laymans terms way to explain the differences between "natural", "flat" and "front" in terms of the auto setup's equalization process? i read the manual, but it doesn't say exactly what each of those options does to the sound, other than imply "flat" might be a little harsh for some people.

if anyone can expand on this, greatly appreciated.
Use flat if your center and surrounds are the same quality as your mains.

Use natural if the flat setting is too harsh with too much treble.

Use front if your mains are of much better quality than the center & rears.

I did YPAO but forgot to skip the speaker size. I also didn't realize that it required extreme silence. When I did it I think things were generally quiet, but definitely not perfectly silent (my dryer was going and it's in my laundry room outside of my bedroom, my fiance was resting and she was breathing/clearing throat, and I think the heat was on). I will run it again early in the morning with all of those things off, and I will set it to skip the speaker size option. I'll give an update in the morning, but things are starting to sound good.

Now if I could just find a good amp for really cheap that would be great. Where's a JC Whitney catalog when you need one? One of those $50 2500-watt amps would be perfect! :D :D :D j/k.

Thanks for bringing up the size setting information... I am trying to understand why people choose small for the front speakers. Mine are 12" JBL S312 models and my surrounds are 10". I think they all come up as large on my RX-V1500. Why do you set them to small? I don't have a sub yet so that part doesn't pertain to me. While on the subject, I don't like the way the center speaker sound comes from above the HD screen. I haven't tried aiming it down but it seems the sound would still come from above the screen. I had it 15" above the screen but moved it down the 15" to just over the screen but it still seems "high". I even though of running the center pre-out to the HDTV audio input and have a part of the center sound come out the HDTV speakers to "lower" the sound. Did that make any sense? I realize the quality of the HDTV speakers would be lower than the quality of my JBL S Center, but if I don't put out a lot of volume from the HDTV speakers, just enough to "lower" the voices.

Has anyone tried such a thing? Does that make any sense?

Make sure you set the speakers to SMALL before you run it again.
The amp you requested. Behringer A500. There are many threads going about this one, and it's cheap.
