It seems like you want to do something different - so, the Focal 705V
is a nice option - and they are nice sounding, and have some bass.

I prefer them over the likes of Paradigm.

However, you can still do better

I've never heard the Monitors, but have heard very good things about them. Wonder if I can find them in black....

I may be placing an order on Monday. Should I have any impedance concerns about pairing them with that Yamaha system?

As long as Yamaha (6 ohms), did a decent/built job you will be fine - the nominal
impedance of the speaker is 6 ohms, and they do not dip below 4.48 ohms, which
is decent/ok. They will not be that hard to drive. Just try to keep the volume below
extreme levels, when you go into the room to play with your son's speakers.

Enjoy the adventure.

Lol, so you are really buying this for your son and not for yourself? I'm not sure how many 10 years olds would really dig a hi-fi system, but you know the situation better than me. Although when I was 10 I would loved to have received a nice system as a gift, but I was atypical. Anyway one of those Yamahas looks perfect for your needs. For speakers I would get whatever you can afford that has the best extension since it doesn't look like a subwoofer is going to be used.
i agree with this. If you want to buy it for your son, maybe you need to reconsider lower spec than That Yamaha
:D
