I'm new to the audiophile world and im looking to upgrade my home thater setup. i am going to purchase the Energy Take Classic 5.1 speaker system. i am in desperate need of some suggestions on which receiver to pair with these speakers. i plan on using the system with my ps3 for gaming and blu-ray and to watch movies and listen to music. any suggestions on receivers under $400 are perfect. thanks!

Have a look at the Pioneer VSX-821 or the VSX-921. They really stepped it up this year and now offer lots of receiver for the money. I bet that one of them should serve your needs almost perfectly.

I just bought the energy 5.1 classic and paired it with the onkyo tx-nr709. I am really enjoying it. that is a 110 watt per channel amp, they seem pretty well matched. I was worried about the 8" sub with the energy system, but it seems to deliver quite well.

by the way, the audessy sound calibration made a HUGE difference so your reciver should have something like that

Yep. Interesting you mentioned that, because I believe that the two Pioneers that I mentioned have audessy - or an equivalent - on them this year.

I would stick with Audyssey. Some of the others are ok but Audyssey is the only one to EQ the sub. Probably one of the most important aspects of a good home theater. Having a well integrated eq'd sub makes a world of difference.
