Current setup is a single SVS-SB3000.
It’s a pretty large room and I’m definitely wishing the bass had more kick. I listen to a lot of music and fell in to the ‘sealed subs are more musical’ trap when I bought it, but I’m now realizing I definitely should have gone ported, and probably a size up (PB-4000).
So the dilemma is do I add another SB-3000 or sell mine, take the loss and get the PB-4000. Will another one or 2 sealed subs ever really give me that ‘holy poop’ chest thump, or should I cut my losses? I guess I could just add the PB-4000, but from what I’ve read here, the work and additional dsp required to compensate for mismatched subs prob not worth it?

IMHO, add a PB and see if you encounter/hear any of the issues you cited (I doubt it).
- If not, press on.
- If yes, sell the SB and buy a 2nd PB.

FWIW: I run a PB10-NSD and a SB12-NSD with no audio issues.

Only "concern" is my OCD for non-symetrical aesthetics, which doesn't matter when lights are off for movies, LOL.

While I've mixed sub types I prefer keeping them more similar than different in response. I've mixed sealed with ported (well, passive radiators actually) without issue, tho. Ask SVS what they think about combining the ones you're thinking about....

I do use multiple large sealed subs (4, three 18" and a dual 15") in my main room and don't feel anything's lacking otoh. I was more chasing ULF and didn't want to try to build larger ported subs on my first go-round of diy either.

Does SVS still offer the sub trade in when you upgrade? Not sure if the sub is to old now... I thought it was a one year trade up policy.

The SB-3000 is a great sub, but it has pretty limited output in deep frequency bass, like below 30 Hz. Two of them won't improve that situation a whole heck of a lot. If I were you, I would go for ported subs, and two of them (or more). The PB-3000 is a pretty outstanding sub, I would aim for two of those rather than one PB-4000, if I were to stay with SVS. There are other good manufacturers though, so don't think that SVS is the end-all and be-all of subwoofers.

How big is the room actually? I’ve seen Ed(svs) consistently recommend NOT mixing subs, especially ported and sealed. FWIW, I tried it myself and while it’s not impossible, in my setup it took a lot of time with my minidsp. I would definitely trade the sb3000 in. In fact, a pair of pc2000 pro’s might be the way I go, but I don’t know the budget. In most cases, below around 35hz, it can take 3 or 4 sealed subs to equal the output of a comparable ported sub. If your mainly music, that might not matter but for movies that’s a big deal. SVS does take trades so it’s definitely worth a phone call IMO.

Keep the Subs the same. Just not two SB's. Get the PB's.
