Need Loudspeakers Setup Advice

Hi,

I am new to Audio and HT setup. I am currently setting up my room 120" x 156".
Currently I am thinking about 2.1

Bass Hsu STF-1 $300
EMP Impression E5Ti vs. M50 v2 Floorstanding Speakers ($400 vs $800)
Receiver Denon AVR-1907 $600

My budget will be less than $2500 and the cheaper the better, so EMP will save me around $400 but it seems like the EMP speakers give people some concerns due to the pricing.

The Denon receiver is a little expensive for 2.1, but might give me some room for upgrade. Or is there any other suggestions?

Please give me some advices.

Thank you!

What are you using the system for? If there is no need for HDMI or the new audio codecs, you could look at a used or refurb receiver to save some $. You can probably find a good used receiver for less than $100 locally.

For speakers, have you considered a bookshelf? Your room is quite small and you don't really need a floor stander. Something like the Axiom M3 or M22 would be fine for your space. You can probably find decent stands for less than $100. I expect the M3s and a good sub would give you the same performance as the M50 + sub in that room.

I would then put some of the savings into a better sub, particularly if you are going to watch movies on this system.

Thank you for replying. Yes the room is kind of small. I will use the system with 54" Plasma, LG BD-390. They are mainly for movies and music. Right now I have a pair of speakers I built my own and a HK AVR 230. I'm open to any suggestions. I love the floorspeaker. If I am buying M22 with stands, wouldn't it make more sense to just buy M50 or the EMP E5Ti?

Where are you located because $600 for a 1907 is robbery. The Onkyo 607 goes for around $400. The Ascend Acoustics CMT-340 (or CBM-170s) w/stands are also a nice option.

Bookshelfs vs floorstanders is more of a personal preference, but generally bookshelfs w/sub make more sense in a smaller room. But then again, the footprints aren't too different.

Go for the EMPs and a better sub. Something like the SVS PB10-NSD: http://www.svsound.com/products-sub-box-10nsd.cfm

I'm guessing Canada based on that price. Denon's markup in Canada is crazy and a comparable equipped Yamaha is often $200 to $300 less.

Or should I just get a Pioneer VSX-1019 instead? That's around $400 right?

Well, if I am spending that much on the bass, I can just go for the SVS PB10 and get a better receiver for now. Maybe hunt for other speakers later on.

Any other advices?

Thank you guys for the inputs!!! :)

For the speakers you are looking at the bookshelf and stands would reduce costs a little without compromising sound in your room, but if you like floorstanders better then go that route.

Any suggestions for the receiver?
I'd like to have HDMI with it =D
