Hello and help. I am new to this and need some advice on a new dvd player. First, my current equipment is as follows:

Hitachi Ultravision 50" tv-approx. 10 years old. Will replace with LCD or Plasma
when it dies.
Yamaha RX-V659
Paradigm Monitor 3s V2 as fronts
Paradigm CC 370 V2 center
Paradigm Sub PDR 10
Axiom QS 8s V2-side mounted on wall
Panasonic EZ47VK DVD recorder/VCR-Just purchased and being shipped. Bought this unit primarily to transfer VHS tapes and tv recording.

I have a Yamaha S659 dvd player that I have not connected and was going to give it to my son, an Air Force Major. He just bought a 36" LCD but doesn't have room for a home theater type set up as he lives in an apartment. I am also giving him a pair of PSB Alphas to connect. I am retired and watch a lot of tv and movies(NetFlix) and keep reading that an upconverting player would improve picture quality. While reading reviews about different players on Amazon, Cnet, and forums like this that an HD player would do as well as other players such as the Oppos and were available cheaper. I found a Toshiba HD A2 for about $110.00 and am thinking about it. Not concerned about buying HD movies and BlueRay isn't in my budget. I'm on DISH and standard cable and probably won't upgrade to HD in either of them. I just want the best video and audio possible with what I have now and when I replace my old Hitachi.

Should I just keep the Yamaha or go for the HD A2? Or should I get the A2 and give it to my son?

Thanks for any help.
