Need help with system hookup

I am a beginner when it comes to hooking up AV equipment and just received the last shipment of a new system. I need help in how to correctly hook up the components purchased. I planned on running everything through the AV Receiver with only a single HDMI cable to the monitor.

TV - Pioneer PRO-FHD1
AVR - Yamaha RX-V2700
DVD - LG BH100
Cable Box - Scientific Atlanta 8300HD
Speaker - Yamaha YSP-1100
Subwoofer - Yamaha YST-FSW100
Remote - Universal MX-900

I need to know the best way to get the best sound out of this set up and is it possible to program the remote by myself or would you suggest I find an installer? Also if I do need an installer can anyone recommend a reputable dealer in the South Florida area? Any help is appreciated!

Thanks

Hi Mark,

I don't think the RX-V2700 will support audio conversion over HDMI, so you'll have to supply a digital audio connection from your sources (DVD and cable box) to the Yamaha speaker. Use either a coax or optical connection for that digital audio. Do not use an analog audio pair, which will usually be red and white. I believe that's the way it has to work, rather than sending audio through your receiver.

I'm curious as to how you decided upon that speaker. Are you extremely space limited? Perhaps you can't install individual speakers throughout the room? Just wondering. If you really want the best sound, let's talk about speaker setups.

I don't have any first-hand experience with that remote, and I don't know anyone in Florida.

Good luck!

Mark,
You have a couple pieces of equipment that are somewhat redundant. First, you have the Yamaha YSP. This is designed to simulate 5.1 suround sound and should work well in small, square rooms with walls on all sides. You can connect a few digital and analog audio inputs directly to the YSP and you do not need a receiver. Connect video directly to the TV.

Second, you have a great receiver, the Yamaha RX-V2700. This is designed to drive a 5.1 or 7.1 speaker system, which you don't have. If you want to take advantage of the receiver, get a 5.1 speaker setup instead of the YSP. There are several good options in the same price range as the YSP.

I have one of the URC remotes, the URC-300. It works great and gives you complete control, but can take time to setup every time I change my equipment. You might consider getting one of the Harmony remotes for $1-200 because the web interface makes it easier to select your A/V gear and program the remote.
