Need help with subwoofer upgrade

Hello,

I currently have a monoprice monolith 10" and I feel its time to upgrade.
I am looking at either:
1. adding another 10" monolith, thereby running 2 10"
2. upgrading to the 15" monolith, ran as solo sub
3. Emotiva RS13, I have ~$300 discount coupon from a prior purchase (making the Monolith 15 and RS13 roughly the same price)
4. Should I be looking another brand?

Will be paired with:
Marantz 5013
Emotiva 5 Channel AMP (200 watts per)
Def Tec 9060 FR FL, 9060 Cent, 9040 book shelfs
The room's dimension 24x16 with an open door way (no more, open flow concept with adjacent room)

I vote dual subs, upgrade, then start planning for the second sub. My fear is that if you get a second 10” monolith, you will be back in a year upgrading again.

I speak from experience.

Definitely agree with OO.
I’d get a mono 15” and immediately start saving for a second. That room is about the size of mine(not sure of your ceiling height). I use three 12’s currently, and imo, a pair of mono 15’s(or Rythmik fv15hp, could definitely replace them all. Although four of either would be exceptional. Also, don’t forget HSU.

Would you say doubling up on the RS 13 be a good idea? or you'd recommend the Monoprice sub over the Emotivas?

I cannot in good conscience recommend Emo to anyone. They apparently have some new Subs coming out, and a review is promised here at AH, but still.... I would wait for that review if you are in any way considering that seriously.

If there were a way for you to upgrade to two Mono 12", you would likely be stoked. The 15" is a beast for certain and will be quite impressive on its own... and own that room if ever you were to step up to duals.
That said, Hsu VTF3 or VTF 15s would also potentially be a good look, especially as duals. The benefit with them is their cost is very affordable and they can hang with some of the best. Never heard a bad word about them.
