Hello, I have a home theater setup that works great. I currently have a roku and shieldtv connected to tv hdmi inputs with audio through receiver hdmi connected to tv. I tried connecting both devices to hdmi ports on receiver and get better surround sound this way. But right now I have a blutooth transmitter for earbuds for quiet listening. When connecting devices to receiver hdmi, cannot get sound to earbud transmitter. Purchased an analog to spdif adapter and plugged to headphone jack and also tried tape deck out rca out on receiver. Didn't work. Is signal output too low for this to work? Any suggestions appreciated.

Are you saying that using the receiver’s headphone output jack feeding the BT transmitter, that you get nothing?

Can you be more specific with make/model of the gear involved?

Finally got bluetooth transmitter to produce sound when going from receiver headphone jack to 1/8 line in on bluetooth transmitter. Would I need an amp to go from stereo tape line out on receiver to 1/8 input on bluetooth transmitter. Tried it with rca to 1/8 but got no sound.

It’s only going to work via the Yamaha’s headphone jack. The Yamaha’s tape outputs will not work with any HDMI sources. See p. 24 of your manual.

It's better through the headphone jack anyway. That way you can use the Yamaha remote control the headphone volume and mute. You would not be able to do that via the tape outputs.
