Hey guys, I'm new to this site and could use a little help from people that know a lot more than myself. I'm hoping somebody out there can help me. I'm upgrading my audio system from 5.1 to 7.1 surround sound. I'm waiting on my new receiver, an Onkyo TX-SR702 100w per channel to arrive. (Anybody got one they want to comment on, good or bad?)
My current system is like this: I have 2 Cerwin Vega Re series 30 front speakers on top of speaker stands total height 52" directed at the sweet spot. A Bose VCS 10 center channel on top of a 55" HDTV. A JBL 150W powered sub. The side surrounds are Bose 161s facing each other across the room just under 5' from the floor. I'm adding 2 more 161s for the back surrounds. (Where to put them???)
The room is the lower level of a 3-level split. Completely carpeted with wood paneling on 3 walls and cork paneling on the wall behind the TV. I plan on replacing all paneling for drywall in the future. I have 2 windows 4' X 3' the bottom of each is 4' from the floor. Dimensions of room are 19.5' X 12.5' X 7.5'.
My questions are these: Any suggestions or comments on speaker placement and where is the best place to put the back surrounds?
What kind of difference will paneling make compared to drywall? Any suggestions on how to improve the acoustics in the room?
I've included a crude drawing of my room and set-up with this posting.
I'm trying to make the most out of my home theater / computer room. I need any help anybody can give me to get the best sound possible. If anybody can help a novice home theater buff, I'd really appreciate it.
THANKS A LOT !!!!!
