Need help: slim floorstanding speakers (less than 7.5") that won't break the bank

I am moving to a new house and looking for a system for one of the rooms. The biggest constraint is the width of the front floor standing speakers (can't be more than 7.5" total width [including stands/feet etc.]).

I have been primarily looking at Klipsch RF-52s and Paradigm Montior 7s but I am open to suggestions.

The room is fairly small (12X15) and the system will be setup as a 5.1 with half the time for music and half for TV.

Thanks

Do you have a particular budget lined up? Also if you are going to purchase a pair of towers for HT, you may want to consider purchasing the matching center channel. It is a matter of opinion. I would guess most would suggest having matching drivers and tweets will help balance your front stage.

Yes I am planning on buying all the speakers from the same line up; however, the width of the front speakers are the limiting factors and I am going to let those dictate which lines are options.

Budget is flexible. I have been looking at around 750 or less a pair.

You posted this in the General section too. I guess Loudspeakers is a better section for your question, so please cut and paste my prior answer into this thread.

Thanks Corey. Here's your response from there: "It sounds like you have some space constraints in your room. What about bookshelf speakers as mains, with as many subs as needed/wanted?"

The front speakers are going on either side of a TV that is on a stand at a diagonal in the corner of the room. There is no way to mount bookshelves on a wall in the front and it seems as those most book shelf stands have a base wider than some of the narrower floor standings speakers out there so their overall footprint is larger than 7.5 inches wide a piece.

I think Monitor Audio RS6's are around that price and footprint.

TSC floorstanding

Tsc has some very narrow speakers that have been well reviewed on this site.

My bad....these are too wide for you but I'm sure PSB T45's are only 7".
I would guess your max driver size will be 5 1/4" to fit in that skinny footprint.
Good luck and let us know what you find.

Thanks for the tip. I think there are a couple of places by me with some PSBs in stock. I'd be interested to hear them.

I am keep going back and forth between just getting the Klipsh and trying something new (I've only had Klipsch for the past 10 years).

It's worth the time to audition a few different ones. Try whatever else your psb dealer has that match your width. I'm curious what you find.:)

Just be aware that limiting your width means your enclosure will have had some compromises on the dampening. It also limits the driver size.

Not to knock on the speakers but just something to be aware of.

That's exactly what got me thinking about the Role Audio and their transmission line designs. I've heard a couple of models of Role speakers and the bass response is amazing for the size of the cabinets without giving up anything in the other frequencies.

Thanks for all of the feedback. I am beginning to look into wall mounted options as well to provide me with some more options.

If you're still looking, I've been told Totem Arro's sound great and are very skinny. You'd have to buy used to make your budget. I have never heard them myself though.

My first two thoughts are the Aperion 4T's, the base may just push the 7.5 width.

Or, a used pair of Totem Arros, they have a surprisingly good bass, plus adding ballast (sand, lead shot) is encouraged.

Does the sand make it seem like even more bass or tighten it up or?
