Yeah, feeling pretty dumb ATM...
oh well. Can at least admit I dumm fukked it.
Yup. We're both the bigger man... :p

You know what happens to me? I get involved in too many threads and start confusing one post for another! It happens more than I'd like to admit actually...

Guys, it’s alright lol! It happens to the best of us. No worries at all, I currently have a 60” Sony 1080p display. It works well and I may want to move it into another room or basement, not sure yet. When I upgrade my television, I do want to go 80” or more with 4K UHD. I want a new avr that has 150 watts per channel and have all the hdmi’s for the newer display. I’ve read the newer Marantz SR series have what I want and Denon as well. But the Denon 8500h has 140 watts and Marantz SR 8015, 150 watts. The Marantz has the video that I’m looking for. Sounds like I made my decision but I’d like the advice from experts here first before I pull the trigger.

Check out this spl calculator.

Just fill in the appropriate boxes with 110 watts, then again with 150 watts and click calculate. That extra 40 watts doesn't even give you a 2 dB gain. In other words, the difference in power is pretty inconsequential. Both models I suggested will do 4k UHD too.

I think you're overthinking it. I don't remembering seeing if you had a budget but that would obviously be the first factor, secondly are there any features other than 4K you're looking for (e.g. room correction), and finally do you prefer a look of a certain brand over another since you'll see it everyday ha. Hell you could get a Sony DN1080 still for a solid price (under $600) and it's probably one of the most reviewed bang for your buck AVR's ever. Honestly though pushing SVS speakers or most speakers in that price range are easily done so I wouldn't worry too much and find one that has good reviews and suits your taste.

Hey MDK, I want to stay below the 3k range but I’d be willing to spend that if the avr has the connectivity, audio surround formats and Bluetooth. I may be spending too much with the 3k budget but my way of thinking is spend now so you don’t have to 2 yrs later. I may be wrong in that but that just how I am lol. I’ve been reading on the Marantz SR 8015 and the Denon 8500h. Both are really good, over kill for me, mabye, but I may want to add in the future. I can with out hesitating.

FWIW in the house wifi/dlna is better and more useful than bluetooth....and most avrs come with both anyways.

Nothing wrong with your thought process as long as you understand there's a point of diminishing returns and any perceived benefits of a brand are subject to debate. Kind of like how my wife loves BMW but fully admits they aren't the best cars for money and she just likes the name brand ha.

You can get a Marantz 8012 (model prior to 8015) on sale for $2500 right now if you're inclined but a high end Denon at a lower price point than a Marantz is much more value unless you just NEED the Marantz name (ref. BMW comment).

As far as reliability, I have a cheap Sony avr that has been through multiple cross country moves and keeps on kicking so I would argue reliability vs price isn't accurate and you could argue more expensive products have more to break in them. Bottom line, what you want is overkill but this whole "hobby" is overkill and you shouldn't be judged as long as you can afford your choices. Buy what you want and if it doesn't suit your needs or doesn't improve your experience then send that crap back.

Try to focus on objective reviews. I don't put too much into brand x receiver having a wider soundstage while brand y has more chocolatey mids. When you get right down to it they all are supposed to be transparent and accurate. Most of the competent manufacturers have been doing this for a long time and have it down now. It's a mature technology and they're all on pretty equal footing.

It really comes down to feature sets, connectivity and number of channels. The differences in power between mid and higher tier models is pretty negligible. I look for preouts so I can add an amp down the road if I choose. Denon and Marantz share a lot of the same tech and have a lot of the same features, but Marantz tends to be priced a bit higher. Yamaha are a good choice too. Lots of members here have Yamaha receivers. Waiting for the new Onkyo might pay off too.

I'd like to see more competition in the market, but I am very leery of the Klipsch lead in the reported resurgence of Onkyo and Pioneer. To be fair, anything hitting the market in the immediate future was likely developed well before the wheels fell off in covy-2020... but how successful the new designs may be depends on so[too] many variables. And even including some form of DIRAC does not make it a clear favorite.
If this new effort does end up rivaling the best D&M/Yamaha has to offer, great!
For now, this pragmatist sees the common selection suffering dwindling supplies, and still not a lot of hope.
The 3600, for example was more expensive than the 3700 last time I checked! In fact, through Amazon right now, last years model is $50 more expensive. WTF?!
Add to that that ADTG has even commented that his distributors are largely out of stock on Yamahas, which I've seen a few posts for him when he has one for sale. For example:

The new Anthems seem to have some flaws. The new Yamaha and D&Ms still have the HDMI issue to some extent.

FTW! I hope my sh!t holds up another 2 yrs! ;) Or at least until Monolith releases a 2.1 version of the HTP-1! :D

No kidding! Half the shit I like to recommend is oos! I can't tell you how many times I've thought to myself I'm glad I got my gear when I did.

It’s definitely hard to recommend any HDMI2.1 product at this point from any company as it feels like they aren’t being true to the specs. It might take another year or longer for that standard to work right. I can wait for 2023 or 2024 though. :)

That said, all these HDMI2.1 features really aren’t important for the average guy with a max of 4K 60fps so they should be fine for a few years. The issues are just with 4K 120fps and 8K 60fps. I think most serious gamers would cable direct to the display anyhow just to avoid any possible lag to their gameplay. :)

For me, the 2.1 issue is more about the future than the now. My personal hope of getting an upgrade this year is completely diminished because of it. I can't accept 2.1 as it stands today, and the platform I'm most interested in with the HTP-1 has not even discussed what the 2.1 upgrade will look like (probably due to the complete c0ck-up in the chipset).
Even the Anthems currently are not including 2.1. So smart on them and Mono/ATI, perhaps. The question stands: how is it going to be implemented when the technology is ready?

Probably not a good time for purchasing anything long term. LOL :)
