Hello.

I just got this receiver, and I want to make sure I hook it up right. There's a section in the manual (pages 86-88) where it talks about speaker configuration. For each speaker, you can set it as "SMALL" or "LARGE" depending on (according to the manual) if they "reproduce low frequency signal effectively"...

...my problem is that I don't know if my speakers reporduce low frequency signal "effectively", so I'm not sure what to select!

Here's the speakers that I got (Infinity TSS-1100):
Infinity TSS-1100

Any ideas? Thanks!...

Those speakers are small satellite speakers so definitely do not 'reproduce low frequencies effectively'.

You want all speakers set to Small, Subwoofer=Yes, and an appropriate xover frequency set in the receiver. The manual for the speakers should indicate their frequency response but by the looks of them I'd say they probably won't go much lower than 100 Hz. Your xover should be set to 100 Hz or 120 Hz.

Shoot,
Give the satelites a try on the new receiver, but since you don't have a sub, you might have to try the mains set to "LARGE" or go back to using the HTIB reciver (w/ sub) until you get some real speakers.

JC - whaddya mean, "since I don't have a sub"? The speaker set I posted in the link above comes with a sub...

...I'm confused, I think!

I get it.

Shoot,
Sorry, I though you mentioned HTIB speaker and a passive sub in a previous post.

No problem...

...so, based on the speaker set above, you think I should set the fronts, center, and rears all to "SMALL"?

I think with those speakers you should just run the YPAO auto setup and leave it at that. I ran the YPAO on my system and only had to change two small things to get it how I wanted. The xover was set too high for my system, initially YPAO set it at 200 Hz. I changed it to 100 Hz. YPAO also set my center speaker to large and I changed it to small. It did a good job on speaker distance and subwoofer phase.

Just use the YPAO and call it good.

i have that exact yamaha receiver, my brother has that yamaha set up, i would def set those speaker settings to small as the sub will be producing the real low frequencies especially since those are satellites.

Correct, All To Small And The Sub Will Do The Low Freq, Set The Crossover On The Receiver To About 120 For Those Speakers. To Get The Crossover Click Menu On The Remote, Select Manual, Then Sound Menu And The Crossover Is In The Sound Menu.

I also own a set of 1100's. IIRC, the owner's manual states all speakers set to small and sub=yes as previously mentioned. Also, the correct crossover is 120.
