Depends what you want to spend. Most DIY'ers go for something like the Behringer EP2500. You'll need an active crossover to go with it, If your are not using the LFE output of a reciever to drive it.

I'd probably recommend a QSC RMX series as a budget amplifier, with a power that is roughly double the IEC of your driver. That's ballpark, and will change depending on your enclosure design.

Why pay almost 2x the price for a nearly identical amplifier(QSC RMX 2450 vs. Behringer EP2500)? Or do you mean for him to buy a weaker RMX that has the same cost as the EP2500, but is far lower in output power?

hi all,
thanks for all your inputs. the sub came from my old SQ car, it is a 15" image dynamics idq. the enclosure was based on the number given by the manufacturer. i'm planning to run a sub output from my rotel rsx-1057 to the sub. thanks again for your valuable inputs.

Which IDQ is it? v2?

500 or so watts should be fine with that driver. They were pretty efficient.

5.5 ft^3 tuned to 23hz gives about the best option with that driver for home use (modeling an IDQ15v2D4).

The Bash 500 watt plate amp would work very well with this driver.

The IDQ15v2D2 models a fair bit better in 6.0 ft.^3 tuned to 22hz.

Good subs within their linear range.

Thanks for your help, annunaki. The sub is a dual-voice coil, but I don't remember if it's a D2 or D4. I remember I had it at 8-ohm or something like that. From your recommendation, I'm thinking of getting the O-Audio bash 500

The O Audio Bash 500 is the best plate amp perhaps available. Both from the standpoint of construction quality and features. The adjustable subsonic filter is especially important for high powered ported applications to prevent the driver from unloading under the tuning frequency. The O Audio produces about 430 watts into a 4 Ohm load, actual measured. You might say - that's all? But to that I say - Dayton amp has been measured producing just over 1/2 it's rated output. Yikes. Besides, not many things actually measure 100 percent to manufacturer specification(high end exotic amps aside).
