Need Help Choosing Headphones

Hey Audioholics,
I'm going to the states soon (I'm from Canada) and I'm getting new expensive headphones. My budget is about $200. I am currently looking at the Beats by Dr. Dre Solo HD. They have a lot of unique response from people. Some people say the sound terrible and have too much bass, but others say they sound great and have very good lows and highs and decent mids. But all of the hate on them I've been hearing (or reading) is kind of changing my mind. I do admit I'm a sucker for style so I absolutely love these headphones looks.
The things i want are:
Over ear
Pretty good looks
Good bass
Pretty Good quality

The things I don't want are:
Skullcandy
Random Generic Brands
In-Ear
Giant Headphones (nyuck nyuck nyuck)
Bad sounding bass

I would like them to be sold in Bestbuy or any other shops in the Portland/Clackamas area of Oregon. (no tax ) So what headphones are good for me?

A Pair of headphones I may consider is the Audio-Technica ATH-M50's which are supposed to have excellent quality, and are under $100.

Since you live in Canada, Futureshop carries the Shure studio professional line. If up front bass is important (and want to feel it) but yet still want good balanced sound quality, I would recommend the Shure SRH840. The Audio Technica M50 is similar sounding to the 840 which should also be in consideration. IMO both are these are better sounding than the Beats By Dre.

It sort of depends what his tastes are. The Sony 7506/v6 are on the neutral - bright side. I find them to be fatiguing while listening to them for extended periods of times but they do sound very good. They are the best monitoring cans for the price.

The others mentioned will have more bass impact (840, M50) with a warmer sound signature than neutral. I find the Shure840 to have a better soundstage than the Sony's. Soundstage is tough to pull off for a closed can and I think the Shures pull it off nicely.

They are all excellent cans depending on your tastes. Find one that suits your needs best.

Minus is right its all about ones listening preference as to what to actually get.I will say that there are only 2 Sony products that I endorse and one is the PS3 the other being the 7506's.They are by far the most neutral phones I have used other than spending around $600 but you can always return them depending on where you buy.Best of luck to you..........
