Need help choosing AVR

Hello all,

I recently made a post about purchasing a new HT system and I received great feedback. The speaker set I have chosen is the SVS SBS-01...for $800, I think I'm getting a steal. Now I'll be using those speakers along with the PB10 sub. I just need help in deciding which AVR to purchase. One of the members recommended the Onkyo TX-SR605

However I looked around and saw the Pioneer VSX-1016TXVK for $30 cheaper and it looked like the Pioneer has more features.

I'm a new to the HR scene but I was wondering out of those two, which I should get for the SVS set. Or if there is another AVR I overlooked for 400$ or less.

Thanks!

The short answer is the Onkyo has Audyssey and more inputs, whereas the Pioneer has more power. It depends on your needs. Power: go Pioneer. Either one is a phenomenal deal.

Also, the Pioneer does not process video or audio over HDMI like the Onkyo. The Pioneer switches HDMI sources only.

I would get the Onkyo, that speaker system shouldn't need tons of power with the x-over set to 80-100 hz and the speakers set to small. And the Pioneer shouldn't be overwhelmingly more powerful than the Onkyo.:)

The only feature missing from the 605 would be preouts for all channels. It would be nice to have that feature, but at this price point who's complaining?:D

The power difference between the two is very small so don't worry about that issue. Get the one that will meet you flexibility needs now and a bit into the future.

Never been a big fan of pioneer. But I have an Onkyo 2.1 system in the living room. Go with the 605, it's the hottest thing for the money IMO.
