Oh yah! I'm assuming all is right now....I can now select the dolby digital sound setting on the receiver. Some movies it displays as 'Dolby d' and some it displays as 'dts master audio'.TThere aren't any other Dolby setting options that come up but I'm assuming that whatever it displays as is the highest setting and the intended setting for surround systems?
With bitstreaming, the player is giving the receiver digital audio that needs to be decoded, the receiver has no say in the matter really (which is how i knew your problem had to be on the PS3 end). It is up to the player to choose the audio that it is going to use. Disks can have a "default" audio track set on them that may or may not override what the players default setting is {idk if the ps3 pays any attention to this} so unless for some reason the ps3 decides to pick a lower quality track your receiver is playing back the highest quality it can.

I know this discussion has been plenty, but I came across something here and found it interesting..... Not to sure what to think actually. So I thought id post it here and see what everyone thinks. Seems to be a good knowledge hereof all things audio but check out this article I came upon. It says I should have my setting on linear pcm to get the Dolby sound that is intended??? Heres the link and please let me know what the correct way to do this is?!?!

This information is quite old, but not necessarily wrong. Experiment time! When you are playing a bluray that has one of the HD audio tracks on it what exactly does your receiver say it's getting for a signal? Does it say DTS, or does it say DTS HD MA?

If it says DTS, then follow the steps outlined there.
